Hello to all

Hello, this forum seems like a great community. I am an animal nut , so I hope I fit in ok. My family consists of myself and my husband and the following "kids":
  • Cleo, a beautiful Senegal parrot, our first pet who is a spoiled brat but tons of fun
  • Chili, a very mixed male shepherd, joined our family as a four month old puppy from our local humane society in February 2001 (we met him on Valentines Day, awww). Chili is one of the most intelligent and empathetic creatures I've ever known. He can also be very needy with regards to affection.
  • Pepper, a female shepherd-husky mix, is our second humane society special. We spotted her picture online and had to meet her. She was two when she came home, and neurotic as heck. It turns out she is terrified of other dogs, but she loved Chili from day one. We knew there was something special about her, and we weren't wrong. After some adjustment, she has become an amazing companion. We think of Pepper as our rescue dog, because she has rescued us from having to deal with Chili's energy and need for affection all by ourselves!

My avatar is a picture from the first week we brought Pepper home. Chili is orange/white and Pepper is black/white. They were best friends already, and we're convinced Chili was the one who told Pepper that she could trust us. She has really become the biggest sweetheart, although she still spins in circles for hours unless we tell her to stop (we almost named her "Left Turn")

For the last year or so, we also usually have a stray/lost dog or cat staying with us. This fall, we finally placed all of our visitors into good permanent homes (or found their original ones). Since I recently began working from home, we decided we had time/room/energy to start fostering officially for our humane society (does that make us certified nuts?).

We brought home our first bunch of foster puppies on October 7th. It has been an eye-opening experience. I have a few questions regarding them, but I will start a different thread for those.

Anyway, that's a short summary of my story. I'm looking forward to reading about all of yours!
