Heart murmurs, cardiac arrest, PVCs, heart block and cardiomyopathy are all possible adverse reactions that are listed in the drug information for Proheart along with many other involving the heart, liver, kidneys, brain, cancer and even death. Make no mistake Proheart (moxidectin) is a poison. It does not prevent infection by heartworm or any other parasite it simply kills any that happen to be in the body when it is administered and prevent further growth and reproduction.
I have no problem with treating an animal when it is sick but to give them a monthly does of poison "just in case" seems ludicrous to me. My dog is tested once or twice and year and has never come up positive. If she did I am confident that I will have caught it in its earliest stages and it would be easily treatable. The same goes for fleas and ticks. Thank god we have never had an infestation but I am willing to treat it when it happen and not "prevent" something that may never happen anyway.
My point is that, in general, people (or animals) will be healthier, happier and live longer the less chemicals, preservatives and other inappropriate items are put in and on them. Why don't we trust the amazing immune systems nature gave us to protect us like it was designed to do? Why do we think we can improve on a system that has worked for generation upon generation? Of course people got sick in the past and people will continue to get sick in the future, but most disease, especially those vaccinated for, actually occurs in the vaccinated population.

Just because something is genetically inherited does not mean that vaccines, other "medications", or other environmental factors did not play a part in the causation of the heart problem. It is possible that it they he had not been bombarded with vaccines, flea and heartworm poisons or other meds that he would have never actually developed the heart problems.
