They're not all living here yet, but the person we're getting them from said to consider them ours. She's going to keep them until next season so that she can run the '07 Serum Run. After that, she wants to get out of mushing, and is giving all of her sled dogs to us. She wants me to run her team this season and next season and help care for them as much as possible so that they get comfortable with me, and vice versa (the majority of them are extremely shy dogs).
I ran 6 of them yesterday (Neptune, Slick, Annie, Burt, Marty, and Dusty). Wow! They are incredibly strong! I tried to stop them. Well, they didn't want to listen. I put both feet on the break and slammed the snowhook into the ground, and finally managed to stop them after they dragged the snowhook 1 foot!
I don't have any pictures yet, but I'll get some later today when I go over to help feed, trim nails, and cut the hair on their feet (they were only run one time this year before I ran them).
Dusty is 20% wolf, and the rest is McKenzie River husky. He is 8 years old. He chews a lot, but he's pretty cuddly and loves to be handled and petted.
Mitch is out of Suzie and a Malamute named Hobie. He was born January 1, 1999. He will run in lead if he has to.
Carolyn is out of Gabby and a dog named Linwood. She's just a yearling (born Oct. 24, '04).
Marty is out of Suzie and Hobie, and is Mitch's littermate.
Neptune is the main gee/haw leader, and is 7 years old.
Ginger is Carolyn's littermate.
Annie is out of (get this) Tyrone and Sherwen's cousin Zelda. She is 7 years old and will run in lead. She seems to be the shyest in the bunch though.
Slick is a gee/haw leader. He's out of Suzie and ??, and is 8 or 9 years old. He's a sweetie, I love him already
. As a joke he's called the "village idiot". He's about as smart as a rock, but he's extremely loving and adores kids.
Norman is Tyrone's grandpup (Annie x Hobie). He runs swing, and is 5 years old. The funny thing is that Annie got pregnant on the Serum Run, so Norman was already working before he was born, lol.
Bert is another Tyrone pup and Annie's littermate. I swear that he looks exactly like Sherwen (except he has erect ears and Sher's are flopped over). He will lead if he has to.
Fred is another littermate to Ginger and Carolyn.
Gabby is way too hyper to run. I'm not positive if we'll take her or not. She's 40% wolf, and you can try and guess what else she is when you see her picture. She's 8 years old.
I don't know much about Suzie Q except that she's black, white, and grey.
