I feel that there is no harm in dying or putting clothes on dogs, but many people are against it. I have seen a maltese mix that was safely dyed to look like a panda, and some poodles who were dyed pink and blue. I personally like the idea of giving your canine buddy highlights. If we can have them, why not dogs?
