When Kassie was younger she had retained her deciduous teeth. She looked like Jaws with all her double teeth in her mouth, poor girl. My vet was going to extract them during her spay but opted not to for that exact reason. He felt the baby teeth were set in her jaw pretty tight and didn't want to risk breaking her jaw. "First do know harm" is his motto. He preferred a dental specialist for dogs to work on them. So I guess it's probably common. I can imagine how awful your friend and her dog must feel. Poor little fellah!
