PJ's first trip to his new vet.
Well, yesterday went for his first trip to the new vet, for his shots and check-up. I feel a bit guilty about not doing it sooner (the check-up part anyway), I would've like to have gotten him in when I first got him, but he'd been the day prior to me picking him up for a check-up, so I waited till he was due again.
Anyhoo, I was a bit nervous about it. But I prepped both of us prior. I've been checking handling him a lot since I got him, checking him over as a vet would do, and even had a couple of friends do it too, just to get him used to it, so it wasn't uncomfortable for him. We also went for a nice LONG walk before we left, and another shorter walk before we actually entered the office.
I'm so proud of my boy, he was excellent. I stayed close to him, and apart from the little rumble he made as the thermometer went up his butt, it was a great success. I don't think he even noticed getting the shots...LOL.
Even more of a relief, he is in EXCELLENT health, heart, ears, eyes, teeth, nose, legs/paws, abdomen, lungs, GI tract, Uorogential system, and weight. My vet was absolutely thrilled that I was feeding him Canidae. Even more amazed when he stated that PJ was the healthiest dog he'd seen at the office in a LONG TIME!!! Awesome! Tysa did great on her last visit too, but that was before swithcing to Canidae, and her coat was terrible compared to now, dry, dull and flaky.
We had a few funny things happen while we were there as well. While we were in the exam room waiting for the vet, someone else came in with their dog. The dog started whining a bit, which set the cockatiel off chirping on the other side of the door. PJ was so confused, he didn't know which way to look towards, back and fourth he looked from door to door, with this really strange expression...it was hilarious. Then both he and the other dog started whining a bit, and I could hear the receptionist say, oh, that other doggie is a horse compared to you. I heard the man say "Wow, what ya got in there?"...LOL, she said a Rottweiler.
When we came out, PJ saw the little JRT, and stood erect and excited to see the little guy. Wagging his nub a million miles a minute...HAHA. The little Jack Russel did the same and stood his ground barking like a mad man at my Pajama Man. The two cats that were in the room hightailed it over the desk. But soon all was calm and the two dogs had a quick sniff at each other before we left.
Anyway, just had to share our trip to the vet, it was a great relief for me to have it all go well.
PJ also got a nice long car ride (it's about a half hour drive to my vet). And on the way home he was absolutely exhausted. He layed down with his head draped over the compartment between the two front seats, and fell fast asleep, polishing up my car with his drool!! HAHAHA.
