The way I view it, the best way to deal with over-population is to spay and neuter. And more and more, when I look at my un-neutered dog when typing that, I feel like a hypocrite. I really am not logical here, just thought I'd let you know... But why not, instead, hugely promote spay and neutering? All the money spent on the promotions would not NEARLY equal the amount of money spent on euthanasia solution, and if SOME of the people are like me, and feel guilty having a dog that could possibly add to the amount of dogs in shelters, it'd be quite successful.
Well, its a good idea, but realize that the majority of stray pets that are killed are pets that reproduced on the street. Promoting getting your pet fixed is only targetting a small portion of the problem. I would like to see a movement from killing pets because they can't be adopted to building low maintenence, long term shelters. The cost of killing animals, and the buildings they do it in are very expensive. I would rather spend that money in a campaign to fix your pet, and adopt rather than buy.
