Kritter, I wasn't referring to you as having an abundance. That was in reference to the quote.
I would defniitely check with the humane society about neutering or spaying. They tend to charge a lot less than a vet clinic. And they do it all the time so are experienced and good. I took my little dog, Jose' and it was only, I think....$17.00. Of course, he is a very small dog. But still...... Neutering is cheaper. You could start there.
Seriously, if it is more than you can afford, what if something more serious healthwise comes up? Perhaps keeping a puppy would be more of a hardship and one more that needs to be neutered or spayed. (?) I think it's very expensive to keep a dog as it is, not to mention when unexpected things come up...illness, injury and they do come up, especially as a dog ages. They can get very expensive in old age.
At any rate, whatever you decide, I hope all goes well for you and your dogs.
