If you're in any way unsure about what your vet has said seek a second opinion.

However dogs are VERY smart and if the pup found it got loads of attention from you for limping it may have possibly played it up a bit. The BF had a GSD as their family dog and whenever it got in trouble it'd start limping around - only thing was it'd forget what foot it started on so it was pretty obvious he was "playing" for sympathy!!!

River also tried a similar thing after he got neutered - he was limping around the next morning until my sister and nephew came over - surprise, surprise the limping stopped straight away!!!

I'd personally be keeping a careful watch on your pup though and would probably also get another opinion on it simply for my own peace of mind.
