No not all ferrets get cancer, guess just depends on the ferret...The two I have were going to be placed in the humane society and we took them. They are actually my son's he's 9 and they live in a 3 level chinchilla cage in his bedroom. We have a hamack, litter box, toys and of course food and water in there. He has to have 2 litter boxes in his room for when they are out running so actually they have the choice of 3 all together (they chose the corner and thats where the litter box stays), of course Im the one that scoops the litter but thats ok they are so darn cute...They do make good pets once you teach them not to nip. They also need shots just like cats and if you have a cold or flue ect you don't want to cuddle them or really hold them cause you can give it to them and they can give it back to you, the only problem is that they do stay sicker longer so we just wash before and after we hold them if we don't feel to well, thats when they get held less. It depends on the person, to me they make great pets and I don't mind the musky smell. If your interested in learning more about ferrets check out Mercia ferrets, I think there is a lady on their that tries to find homes for ferrets. She know a great deal about them. They would be able to answer your question/s alot better then I. I prefer them to cats, they remiind me of a kitten that never grows up
