Puppy shot and killed - 2 Others left to starve

I just have to vent a little and I apologize if this is too disturbing for some of our members.

Today while at work I responded on a call of shots fired in a wooded area to the rear of a neighborhood; as I was responding further information came in from the original caller advising that he witnessed two males to the rear of a vacant home that backs up to the woods with shotguns, from the caller's window he stated that he saw them fire several times at a small puppy and then run to their car and leave the area.

When I arrived of course the two guys and their vehicle were nowhere to be found and there in the backyard of this vacant home was what appeared to be a 5-6 week old pup that had obviously been shot with a shotgun. Unfortunatly there wasn't anything I could do for the pup as it was already deceased but I could hear whining coming from further back in the wooded area and after a few minutes of trying to following the sounds I found the noise.

Back in the woods were two more pups, obviously from the same litter, both were just laying on the ground and softly crying, they were both covered in filth, so starved that I could see every rib....it was so bad that neither could even pick their heads up on their own. Our animal control unit advised they were 30 minutes away and with the shape of the two I doubted they would make it another 30 minutes.

I scooped up both pups and rushed them into our emergency animal clinic, one died on the way and the other died about a half hour after we arrived. I cannot even begin to tell you how VERY angry I was and my heart just broke for those poor pups. NO animal deserves this! Although this happened around 1 p.m. it still runs almost constantly through my mind. Tomorrow I begin my follow up with neighbors in the area to see if I can get any more details that might lead me to the jerks that did this but it's highly unlikely I'll ever find out who did it. God help them if I do though!
