First, the name of this nefarious fisherman is never mentioned ; the author refers to the local Reunion Island police as "the cops" ; the hook shown is not a hook that would be used for large sharks, but instead appears to be a barbless tuna double hook (if it IS a fishing hook at all) ; and the dog shown in the plainly obvious photoshop-created picture is not in any distress.
If that weren't enough, a quick online check of Reunion Island's newspaper, Le Journal de I'lle, doesn't mention any such outrageous story, and (perhaps not surprising) a search of French Embassy press releases doesn't substantiate The Sun's claims either.
And for pete's-sake, a golden retriever? Sacre bleu!
