husky...forgive me 'ignorance' as an American, but I've never heard Kiwi used as a rude term

Case in point:

The name of your rugby team... Kiwis
The informal title of your currency... Kiwi Dollar
The name of a famous NZ airline... Kiwi Air
items of popular culture unique to New Zealand... Kiwiana

From Wikipedia.com:

Quote:
Kiwi (usually capitalised) has been applied to and adopted by New Zealanders as a nickname for themselves and as an adjective for their culture. It originates from kiwi (usually uncapitalised), the Maori word for several species of flightless birds endemic to New Zealand. The plural form for New Zealanders is always Kiwis. The plural forms for the birds are the anglicised kiwis or, following the Maori language, kiwi without an s.

Kiwi (bird) logos are often associated with New Zealand military forces and New Zealand goods.

The New Zealand dollar is often called the Kiwi dollar (or just the Kiwi) and the bird's image appears on both the 20 cent and one dollar coins.
Quote:
The remoteness of many parts of New Zealand and the distance of the country from much of the developed world meant that things that were easily obtainable in other parts of the world were often not readily available locally. New Zealand has only recently experienced economic development outside farming, so traditionally, Kiwis are jacks-of-all-trades to some extent, willing to roll up their sleeves and have a go. Most highly industrialised countries produce experts trained in narrow fields of specialisation, but New Zealand professionals are often generalists as well. This reputation often makes New Zealanders uniquely valued employees in overseas organisations.

This has given rise to the attitudes "She'll be right, mate" as well as "Kiwi ingenuity".
Quote:
Kiwi ingenuity (http://www.techhistory.co.nz/Article...%20Review.html) is a "can-do" attitude that any problem or situation can be solved, despite apparently insurmountable odds, and the meagerest of resources. While this may sometimes led to spectacular failure instead of success, if inadequately prepared, it has lead to many world-first innovations.
Quote:
This is also known as the 'Great Kiwi Clobbering Machine', and has prompted many of the country's best and brightest to emigrate.

a) Why should I host the site in NZ when all hosts that are physically located in NZ charge around 20 times what is charged by overseas hosts?

b) Is it not fast enough for you? It sits on quite a nice server...loads very rarely go over 0.2.

c) Kiwi is NOT a derogatory term. Why do we have 'Be a tidy Kiwi' on our rubbish bins, have "Kiwiana" as the term for 'things relating to the New Zealand way of life' and why does Weetbix advertise the fact that 'Kiwi Kids are Weetbix Kids' if it is derogatory?

"Kiwi", in my mind, is someone who is pround to be a New Zealander.

I very highly doubt you are a New Zealander. If you think you are, you most assuredly are not deserving of the term Kiwi.

(Everyone else: you are most welcome for the screensaver!)

Cheers! Thanks for the screen saver. Nice work.

As only a part New Zealander (my grandfather)I may not have much of a say in this matter but, I also don't find the term Kiwi derogatory. It's like calling an Australian an Aussie, and the term 'Yank', at least here in Aussieland, isn't meant to be derogatory either. Just a nic-name we all use because we're too lazy to say the real one. LOL Same goes for calling the English, Poms. Totally affectionate and friendly term.

BTW... I believe some people call us Aussies, Skippies. LOL I don't mind that either.

Cass.

At this point, never. Kall simply created one for us from random pictures I gave him. One day, I may buy a license to the program he uses and make some extra ones.
