Cost of artificial Insemination
I'm searching into the cost of inseminating frozen semen, along with all of the hormonal testing during the heat cycle.
I'm searching for anyone that has used AI for their female (I still cant bring myself to call her "bitch") and what costs they paid. I'm shipping my girl to Arizona for breeding, but there is a week that the stud won't be available. The stud is having semen put into the frozen bank and this will be available during this week if the timing is off. I just want to know what others paid for the insemination process. |

One of my co-workers used frozen semen, it took 5 tries to get a pregnancy. She had a 1st Stud pick but the sample was not viable, she then had to rely on 2nd Stud's sample.
I'd suggest finding a vet with a great A.I. track record, your chances of success are greater. There are reproduction specialist, have you contacted one yet? They are usually at vet schools |

I called Purdue University Vet school, and they don't do public AI, so I called a reproduction specialist in Indianapolis and after two days, I'm still waiting for them to "get back to me", I imagine I'm going to leave things to nature and if the timing isn't right, wait another six months. Ive been planning and researching this for years, so six months more isn't so bad. For some reason I feel that AI wouldn't be the best for her. It's just a gut feeling.
Thanks for the response. |

We have had virtually no success with AI with our breed yet, but I am not sure about poodles.
You could still utilize the hormone testing so you have a better idea of what the best dates for live cover would be though.....after six years you think she'd get her timing better for you, huh? LOL.

My suggestion is to research your vet schools in the area and other AI provider vet clinics. I have seen a wide range of AI services and costs even in my area, however, two of the area vets here have some of the best track records in the nation.
There are multiple types of AI breeding, including true, in-uterine surgical implantation. The cost is much higher, but the results are much better for pregnancy and number of pups produced. See what Iowa State University Vet School in Ames, IA can do for you as far as information. I was thoroughly impressed with the school since I was there for an AKC Canine Health conference. Also check with Dr. Marty Greer. She is world's ahead of some of her veterinary counterparts. Good Luck... |

My Mom has had great success with "fresh caught" sperm in AIs, but apparently frozen is a much bigger problem for many.
It's a pity, and I hope some advances are made, because AI is so much safer for the dog and bitch than natural breedings - no worries about venereal diseases, etc. |
