Does your dog play favorites?
I call myself the Alpha dog in the house and my partner the Omega dog (saw in a wolf documentary about the "pecking order" of the wolves and the omega wolf is the bottom of the pack or totem pole if you will)....it's mostly a joke really and we have a good laugh about it.
Anyhow, since adopting Mocha, my little mutt who is now about 8 months old, it's been clear who he thinks is the alpha in the house and it's amusing for me because it's me and he obviously shows favoritism too. My partner tells me that when I'm not home, Mocha is usually sitting in the hallway next to the garage or at the garage door waiting for me to come home and today when she stopped by the house in the middle of the day, she said that Mocha greeted her and then immediately went back to the garage door and was wagging his tail and wouldn't come away from the door because he was waiting for me to walk through the door.... She says she feels like "chopped liver" and I would have to say that Mocha definitely responds to me more and is definitely "my dog"....but I know why.... I am the one that takes him out to potty, I take him to puppy class, I work with him on this commands, I play with him, I cuddle with him more, I feed him and water him, I give him his bath (he doesn't quite like that, but he still comes back to me!) and I think all in all, I spend more time with him.....of course he plays favorites. Does your dog play favorites? Oh...and don't get me wrong...Mocha is a very loving dog...he kisses her and does go to her when she calls, but it's obvious who he prefers. |

Yep! Shadow does the same thing. Even though I bought the dog for my son, I have always been the one to train, exercise etc. So I guess I am the alpha dog here. My husband and my son do on occasion feed him and walk him as well as play with him but if I am gone Shadow will mope around or continously want out to see if I'll be home soon. Poor little guy, it's so sad to know he misses me but it goes both ways.

Brie is definitely all girl. I'm with her all day, feed her, train her, love her and she responds great but when my son, his friends or my husband come home, she drops me like a hot potato. And then she flirts and flirts and flirts. She will only obey my commands but without a doubt prefers the company of men! Shameless hussy! lol

My girls definetly listen to me better and run to me first when we come through the door. They wake me up first in the morning and they push each other around to see who gets to sleep on me at night. During the week I constantly have two wiener dogs glued to my feet and lap every second of the day. But they really love their Daddy too. I take them with me to pick Daddy up from the airport. They know the route by heart and start to stare out the window in anticipation when we get close. There is a set of bumps that we drive over when we enter the airport drive. This is the cue for my dogs to go wild. Lucy howls, Bailey whines and barks and both of their tails rev up to 100 mph. Once my husband is in the car and the doors are safely closed I release the dog's seatbelts and they just short of attack him with kisses. He can't breathe and has to push his head up through the wiener tongues and noses for a gulp of air. It takes them 10 minutes to calm down enough for me to put them back in the seatbelts. Lucy cries and whines all the way home because she can't be in the front seat with him. My husband spends the next several hours spoiling the pups by playing fetch with Bailey and holding a bone for Lucy to chew on. Then they all curl up on the couch with blankets and pillows and cuddle until it's time for bed. This is my favorite time too because I am wiener free for a few hours and I am uninterrupted on the computer and I can get some chores done and relax. The next day they are usually back to being glued to my feet again.

Yes. Jesse prefers my father, even though my father has little to nothing to do with him. He practically ignores Jesse when ever he's around. I walk, feed, groom, wash and fawn over Jesse.
I don't think my dad has done more than give Jess the (very) rare scratch on the head and the occasional treat from his plate (something I do as well...and far more often -yes it's bad *smacks herself for feeding treats like that* - ). Since I adopted Jesse 10yrs ago..yet he prefers my dad. I have noticed that he prefers men over women, so perhaps that has more to do with it. *shrugs* He only ever obeys me though, which is weird. Cass. |

Cass, thanks for making me feel better.
Jasmine loves my hubby over me, but won't listen or obey him nearly as well. I do all the feeding, training, walking, take her to work, everything. She used to only like me, but about 3 months ago when she was about 10 months old she realized daddy was a "big suck" and he will pet her and cuddle with her, all for free, (no work). so now although she is happy to see me when I get home and runs over, she goes crazy when he gets up inthe morning. Little traitor (LOL) |

Rocky is very much my dog, especially since my g/f and I just parted ways
I am however the primary care giver and always have been. I do all the training, vet visits, shopping, driving and all that which goes in to raising a pup ... He listens to me and usually doesn't give me any grief unless he is very distracted. However when my ex and I were together, he would usually prefer me over her. Sometimes though he would like to cuddle up in "mommys" lap for a nap. But when it came to obeying commands, he would ignore her more than me. |

Axa is funny that way, while I'm the only one she will obey (ok thats mainly becouse she's trained in Czech...but meh I'll choose to be ignorant and think differently
: ) she preffers men, not just any men though they have to be a boyfriend.....I swear sometimes she's trying to win them over. I'll walk into the house and she'll be sprawled all over them on the couch. She never EVER does this with me, although lately she has been more affecionate and cuddly, now she will actually jump on the couch and watch movies with me. She loves me and I love her......but bring a man in and their is trouble. LOL my poor boyfriends have to (and I mean have to or else bye bye) put up with a 64lb lap dog, do I feel bad? NO lol Well I dont know where I'm going with this so thats my post.... ![]() |

Our girls are definitely "daddy's girls" but Phantom is a momma's boy right now. I am the one who does most of the training, treats, showing, disciplining, poo picking up, cuddling, etc. We split the grooming and nail grinding about 50-50, so no problems there.
They are not picky when they greet you at the door, as they love everyone and treat all humans the same, be it a friend or family....little suckups!! ![]() The funniest thing is that when any of them are not feeling well, they run to my wife to have mom take care of them. ![]() |
