Ultrasonic bark silencers - do they work?
Some of you may remember me posting a couple of months ago about the neighbor whose dog barked pretty much all night long. When I left her a note asking her to please keep her dog quiet at night, she said that if it was that big of a deal, that she'd have to put the dog down.
Anyway, up until last night, she'd generally been quiet at night, aside from a couple of isolated incidents. I don't know if it was the full moon or what, but she was at it again. It was bad enough that DH and I had to go sleep at the other end of our house--and I still had to wear earplugs so I didn't hear her. I don't know if her owner just didn't hear her, or decided to ignore her, or what. When we told someone about the problem, they mentioned that we could get one of those devices that puts out ultrasonic waves that quiets the dog's barking. She's close enough that the waves would reach her from our yard. Besides getting off on my rant that it's not fair that WE feel like WE have to buy this so we don't hear someone else's dog, I have a question to ask: do these things really work? Do some work better than others? Are there certain features that we need to be sure to have if we get one? If I were a little less afraid of confrontation, I'd just buy one and present it to the owner, along with the bill for the purchase so she could pay us back. I have a feeling, though, that the owner is pretty strapped for cash and can't afford most "extra" things. Any input would be welcome. Thanks! |

I got one a few years ago that you plug into the wall, and supposidly the sound stops the dog from barking. It didn't do a thing, my old dog still barked like crazy anytime he saw someone outside, and it was plugged in right beside the window.
I don't know about other products, but this particular one was garbage. |
