Lightbulb Tail Chasing and Catching

Hi,
Butters has the habit of chasing her tail only its not just chasing it, she gets ahold of the tip of her tail and runs in circles with it to the point where if she is under the dining room table she will bump into the legs because she makes herself dizzy. Is this something I need to be concerned about and if so what do I do to prevent it from happening and WHYYYYY does she do it to begin with. Other then to make me laugh

Well, try to contain yourself from laughing. If Butters is anything like my dogs, she will take your laughing as a reward. LOL. Does she do this excessively? If it's once in a while, that's pretty normal. It's perhaps fun for the dog or maybe she has an itch. But if you think it's excessive, you don't want it to turn into obsessive compulsive disorder, which is a possibility so I would try distracting her when she does this. (if it's too frequent) Distract her with a toy or another game, something to teach her. You can call her over to you and teach her a little trick, shake, sit/stay....whatever. Reward for that. Try not to pay much attention when she does that chasing the tail thing. But again.....if it's not excessive, I wouldn't worry about it. Jose, my little boy Chi mix does that too, just not too often.

Wink tail

Hi,
Nope its not excessive, she does it once or twice a day, sometimes she does it when she is out in the yard in the snow playing, but no its not excessive and she stops if I call her name or if she sees me watching her.

Well then....I wouldn't consider it a problem. I think they get itches sometimes or when Jose does it, it turns into a little game and he too spins around and around. He growls playfully and then it's over. LOL and he's onto something else.

Talking thanks

Carrie,
Thanks she is funny when she does it and I can't help but laugh because she will get going in a circle so fast that she sometimes bumps into the wall. When she bumps into something she stops and looks at whatever she bumps into as if to say "Hey where'd you come from" LOL
