Breed suggestions?

Ok. So I am starting to think about adding another dog into my household and am looking for suggestions of breeds that might easily transition into my family. I have a 19 month old Irish Wolfhound. He has been called a 'natural alpha' by vets, behaviorists and trainers. He is extremely active in bursts and then lazy the rest of the time. He is 34.5" at the shoulder and about 140 lbs (although he is still broadening in his torso and his weight will undoubtedly continue to rise a bit). Darby always ends up in the 'leader' position when around other dogs but seems to never understand when another dog is being agressive towards him. He's friendly but his playstyle can be rough; 'linebackering' (running into dogs and dropping his shoulder into their chests) is one of his favorite games with larger dogs and 'toss' (sticking his nose beneath their sides and tossing) is his favorite game with small dogs (there is a lab puppy that loves this particular game). The new pup/dog would have more than enough running room and get one or two (depending on weather) 2 mile walks each day. They would be in the house for most of their day and every night, all day in cold weather.

I can't think of anything else to add. So... any suggestions?

I thought I should probably add my shortlist: Scottish Deerhound, Great Dane, another Irish Wolfhound, Komondor, Otterhound. Those are the breeds I'm currently considering, but I welcome any other suggestions.

How 'bout another Wolfie or a Scottish Deerhound. Friends of ours have 7 IWs and a SD that get along well. Their play style is similar...

I was thinking that too KennelMom. I vote for either IW or DH.

Cass.

Personally, I would go with the Deerhound...of course, of the two breeds I think the DH is more similar to my breed of choice, greyhounds. Just bigger and a bit more energy!!! We'll eventually be adding an IW and a DH to our pack (several years from now!)...the DH for me and the IW for my hubby

I think another wolfhound would be great. Or maybe something like a Borzoi.

Thank you for the input everyone! I'm leaning towards another IW if I go with a puppy. But...

Rescue dogs. There are a few Giant Breed rescues in my area. Saint Bernard and Great Dane are the two who seem to have the greatest need for forever homes. So, kind of considering one of those 2 breeds.

OH! Borzoi would be great, good suggestion Sugardog. They're one of my favourite breeds.
Similar (although not the same...they're slightly smaller) in size and full of energy.

Cass.
