Nipping/nibbling

Finn has developed a habit that can sometimes be endearing and sometimes annoying, so I don't know how to treat it. When he comes home from his walk he does his zoomies around the house and then throws himself down at my dad's feet, or at mine, and starts nibbling our shoes, making sort of "rowrrr" noises. (He does this at other times as well, but this is the one that is most recent in my memory.) Should I consider this as affection or insolence due to boredom?

My Azrael does the same thing, but I think it's just a happy play since she only does it when she's excited!

I have a habit of going about in socks or bare feet... Finn's curing me of it.

I don't have any dogs that do that, but have come across a couple that do when they get very excited.

IMO, it's up to you as to whether or not you want it to continue. You can teach him a command that has him settle down if it gets to be too much.

If you want to put an end to the behavior, then ignore it. And I mean completely ignore it. Don't look at him, don't tell him no, don't try to move or run away, just pretend like its not happening no matter how much it bites. Then, when he stops and sits down, reward him and give him attention. If he starts to do it again when you reward him for sitting, then immediatly stop giving him attention and ignore him again until he calms down and sits.

Doing this will teach him to come in and sit because coming in and sitting is what gets him attention and play.
