for the WOMEN on GP
Ok, I have a weird question. Do any of you women out there with male dogs, notice a behavior change in them when you are starting your cycle??
Shamous we have noticed 3-5 days prior gets very barky, and can't stay still and is always in my face ( more so than usual ) . We are starting to notice a pattern with him and can attribute it to my cycle. I realize this sounds strange but I was just curious...I also realize nothing really I can do about it other than just wait it out. Any thoughts? |

I own female dogs, but I have noticed it with my male horses, and it is pretty common in the horse world for women to notice it.
I also think I have heard of women having this issue with their dogs as well. |

I don't get those anymore, for now anyway, until my treatments are done. But before I used to get such severe pain, that my dogs did act differently, like they do when I'm not feeling good. I'll have to watch out for that when I "start up" again...LOL. Hopefully after the surgery and treatments, I won't be in agony now!

Sarge used to behave differently when I started. He was much more clingy, obedient... except for barking a little more than usual, and was more protective of me than usual. He wasn't intact, but I still noticed a difference in his behavior about 2 days before I started, and all throughout. I get horrible cramps, and very exhausted so that's probably the difference he noticed.
Kelso and Ike really don't show any difference in their behavior. Although, I have really never paid attention to that like I did with Sarge. Ike seems to get more clingy --- wanting to sleep in the bed with me, follows me everywhere. But other than that he's the same, and Kelso just doesn't give a hoot. LOL |

I've never made the link before but River seems to get really sooky about the week before - just wants to cuddle me more than usual - I always thought it was because he was about due to go back for his monthly day care visit but now I think it may have more to do with my cycle - I'll have to pay closer attention next time!!!!

OK>>good. I thought maybe I was reading too much into it or it was perhaps just a wierd coincidence. Actually it was my husband that put 2 and 2 together. Shamous is definately more anxious, and paces around. Plus he constantly checks on me and gets very irritated if I am to far away or something. As for the obedience...
..ummm we're talking about SHAMOUS remember?![]() |

I don't have a cycle, but when I was in the military with drug and explosive detector dogs, we would do random car searches. I always had male dogs, and could always tell when the woman driving was on her cycle. Or if it was a man, I could tell when his wife had driven the car on her cycle. The dog showed a LOT of interest in the seat!! LOL
I also notice that if the hubby and I get "romantic"....Carlo shows a lot of "clingy-ness" to me for the rest of the day, even after a shower! ![]() |

Well i know male dogs are the best detectors for when a woman has a cycle, especially when they are off leash, they show interest.
For some people it is quite ambarrasing when the dog goes straight at it and sniffs it out! My old dog was very clingy! The dogs i have in training are usually very snuggely during that time. |

Hmmm...I've never noticed that. Perhaps my old mexican is too long in the tooth to react to it now. I'll have to pay more attention. What a strange thing. lol
