I am at my wits end!!!

Hello My name is Cat,
Yes odd name for a dog lover I know.
My question is to anyone out there who can help me..
I have three dogs one Boston Terrier ..Rose...a peekapoo..Zelda...and a Rat Terrier named Susan...
I have read volumes on the issue of dogs that bark constantly for no explainable reason...I have tried vinegar till my rat terrier smells like a greek salad...I think she may actually like the awful smelling stuff...I even bought a 100.00 shock collar...I think she is begining to enjoy the tingle sensation....so what do I do to help Susan my rat terrier stop this constant racket...I have read so much my head hurts and Im confused as to what to do next besides get a perscription of prozac for me and a frozen margarita...
Ok I will await some helpful advice...
Thank you
Cat

Welcome to Global Paw!

Have you noticed anything that might trigger her barking? I know you said it's for no reason but there might be something that starts her off, after which she just keeps going.

How much exercise does she get?
How much training has she had?
How much socialisation has she had?
How much attention does she get?
What do you do when she barks (how do you react)?
How old is she?

We need a little more info to give accurate advice.

Oh and I hope you'll post pictures of your pups in our picture forum. We all LOVE pictures.

Cass.

Im at my wits end

I have three dogs all of whom have had issues in past with barking and being territorial...now all issues are resolved except for Susan the rat terrier..a four pound dog with a bark loud and continious enough to give a person internal hemmoraging...all dogs were started off with puppies for dummies books and got the vinegar for the barking...which was a temprary fix...then it was on to 100.00 bark collars which cured the peekapoo and boston terrier...all are very socialized ...they are dogs who log in about 5 miles a day 4 X a week excercise and some of those days 7-8 miles a day in a moderate jog with me...not to mention the 30 minutes in the morning of chasing toys around the kitchen...Susan when put outside in the morning will start to bark for no reason even before she relieves herself.. or any time anyone goes into the kitchen begins to bark wildly and wont stop...then she will bark at bugs crawling across the concrete .. or if a cloud passes by...or is a leaf falls to the ground ... ..I cant find any specific triggors for her behavior...she has been to the vet who can find no physical reasons and there are no dog phychologists within two hundred miles of us that I am aware of....I know it is inbred and encouraged for the breed if they are used in hunting to bark on the hunt to alert the owner to its position ...but our new neighbors are begining to turn into a angry mob and I am turning into a mess...it shouldnt have to come down to her being held 24 / 7 to keep her quiet nor do I think it is the answer.....The dogs are wonderful otherwise they get along great with children of all ages and other people and dogs ..The peekapoo is a bit shy about cars and strangers a bit since she was in a bad accident two years ago in which her kennel mate was killed but she seems to have bounced back well...its the rat terrier Susan who is driving us nuts,...The Dogs are all about 4 years old so you can see we have been dealing with this a while...
Ok perhaps that is enough info for someone to help out with this or someone who may have had a similar issue..
Thanks again
Cat

I have reasearched and have found no behaviorest within 200 miles...I have a daughter with health issues so travel any further than 15-30 minutes from home isnt possible in my world..That is why I have sought out help at this site in hopes someone has dealt with similar issues..when considering terrier small breeds it isnt unusual in my observation that these breeds tend to be more vocal so I know I cant be the only one dealing with this same problem...when she is on our walks with her other 2 kennel mates she doesnt bark at any thing ...no barking at cars, other dogs that are barking back, kids playing in there yards, birds, or 9 million other distractions...
