Agility - Any Preparation Required

River and I are going to give agility a try this year and I was just wondering if there are any physical checks/tests that should be done before we start just to make sure he's suitable for it.

The only thing I know is that they can't be overweight - which he isn't. Other than that is there anything else I should be looking out for? Is a vet check up recommended? Are there any special dietary requirements to help prevent joint/muscle strains etc?

How old is he? Mostly you just want to make sure his growth plates are closed which is usually at around a year but varies between breeds.
