agressive neighbor dog?

This is a lengthy story/question. This question doesn't directly pertain to my pup, but it is a very serious problem. A few months ago, this guy moved across the road from us with a big, very pretty dog. It appears to be a gsd/husky mix. The owner should not have a dog in the first place because he is very irresponsible, so to have one that will probably require dedicated training...goodness gracious, i don't want to get into it. Anyway, the dog is tied up ALL the time. But about 3 weeks ago (just before I got Trixie) I went out in the morning to start my car. The neighbor dog was loose and aggressively jumped on my back and scared the begeesus out of me. It didn't bite me, but it was freaky. Then, just last night, I was taking Trixie for a jaunt around the yard and I didn't realize it, but that dog was loose again and tried to go after trixie. I felt bad, but I got nervous and pulled Trixie into my arms by her leash so the other dog would have to go through me first. It was charging at us full bore, snarling, and barking aggressively. I don't think it bit Trixie, just pushed her around a little bit and tried to just on me again after I had Trix in my arms. After we got back in the house it paced in front of our house for about 10 minutes til my husband got home and shooed it. What do I do about that dog???? Confronting the owner does work cuz he says "I can't help it if he gets loose when I not home." Should I call the ASPCA? Or what?

Call the ASPCA or the Humane Society or the local pound...whom ever it is that takes care of these things and report the dangerous dog (because that's exactly what it is...imagine if a child were in your position) and have them pick it up.
I feel very sorry for that dog, it hasn't had a good owner at all and that's a shame, but it seems it is unsafe to be around.

Cass.

That's what I was hoping someone would say. I just needed some reassurance that this was the thing to do.

Thanks so much.

No problem. I'd hate to think that you, your dog and other people in your neighbourhood couldn't walk around in safety. I know that would bother me. Heck, we had an aggressive little mini foxie down the street from me a while back and even that tiny dog freaked me out. I can't imagine what it would be like having a GSD/Husky like that.

Good luck with it, and you never know. Perhaps the dog will get a new home somewhere with people who are responsible and can handle it. Fingers crossed, eh?

Cass.

Call your local pound or ASPCA. If the owner cant confine his dog, especially one that goen after other people and dogs, whether it attacks them or not, he should deserve the call. They will make him obey local laws or take the dog. I got a letter int the mail today that states that if my dog isnt liscensed by the 24th court action will be taken against me. The funny thing is, Keira IS licensed. Hers doesnt expire until mid march! So, just wait until I get to the town building tomorrow!

Not to scare you, but when Sophie was 12 weeks old, she was viciously attacked by a husky mix, and suffered 4 broken ribs, 18 staples, 6 puncture wounds, and had to spend almost 4 days in the emergency vet's hooked up to various IV's, not to mention weeks and weeks of recovery...the owner said they had suspicions that the dog could be aggressive, but "never thought he would viciously attack a young puppy".
I would HATE to see that happen to anyone else...trust me, better to be cautious...

You should definitely call the ASPCA - if the poor dog doesn't get itself into trouble by attacking something he could end up hit by a car or all sorts of nasty things. For both your safety and the dogs I'd report it.

Thanks again. I'm definitely going to call. I'm petrified to even go out and check the mail any more! I know it's not the dog's fault, but I'm pretty scared of him. It's cruel that he has no one to really care, love, or train him. So, the ASPCA is probably the best option for this "lost" dog.

yeah u should. a couple years ago, when i went to my fostor parents place, there was these pair of german shephereds across the street. well, they use to be really nice. but, when they got older, they were very very vicoius. i went out to go for a walk with my sister, and one of the dogs had walked up to us. well, my sister went to go pat it. it attacked her. my fostor mom called the police. the police came, but for some reason, they didn't take the dog away. do u think that is weird?
