Question Teaching an old dog new tricks?

Apperently my new foster (Hershey) doesn't understand what toys are for or that crazy thing DaKota & Gliztie do just before they settle in. What can I do to encourage him to play?

Unfortunately, some dogs that have never learned to play, never will. I knew an Irish Wolfhound that didn't want to have anything to do with balls or any toys.

Others learn that toys are fun by watching & interacting with other dogs.

Jesse's like that. He won't play with toys, I think he did for a about 5 seconds when I first got him but then just didn't get what all these toys were for. I've never been able to get him to play with them.
He does play with other dogs...well, use to before he got old and crabby.

Honestly, as long as the dog is happy and comfortable and kept busy, I don't think it's a huge problem. Although I hope someone has some advice on what to do so you can at least try to get him interested.

Cass.

Is he food motivated? Have you tried any of the interactive toys where they have to roll it around in order to get the treats/food out?

That's what I would try (if you haven't already).

Kelso is really not interested in toys at all. He's only interested unless Lugar is playing with it (jelly-bean aka jealous). I had toys for him ever since he was a young puppy, and he just has never really taken to them. He loves to play with sticks, though. lol
