?? for those who run with their dogs....
Zuki FINALLY understands what I want him to do when we run - as in, no jumping up to grab my sleeve in excitement or crossing in front of me resulting in a huge pile-up(YAY). My question, for those of you who regularly run with your dogs - do you use a regular collar, or would a harness work better? I've been using just his regular flat collar but worry about it rubbing on his neck? Tks!

I use a loose choker(the nice ones with chain and nylon\cotton) on both my guys when we all rollerblade together, this way they don't have a tight collar during excersize and also gives me more control when dogs unexpectedly come running out of other people's yards.

I tend to use a regular collar as I do not use a long leash and if the dogs stop suddenly it will be looser then their martingales would be in that situation.

a normal collar is fine if your dog doesn't pull too much. if he does, it could hurt his neck and in that case a harness would be better. if your dog is heavy and strong, remember that using a harness allows him to apply much more force and drag you everywhere

I haven't run on the sidewalk/road with Lola yet, so haven't run with her using a leash, but I've heard the gentle leaders (especially the harness type - with the connector in the front) are good. It sounds like the regular collar is working for you though....I wouldn't worry about it rubbing the neck unless, like someones else said, your dog is a puller. It's great to run with a dog, isn't it?!

Most of the time I run my with my dogs, I have them off leash in somewhat of a heel position. But on occasion when I am in an area they really need to be on leash, I use a regular nylon collar.
