Any substitues for the Halti?

I bought Abby a Halti collar on Saturday, in the smallest size it came in (size 0! ). Unfortunately it was way too big for her, and she could get it off her in a split second. I was really hoping that it'd be perfect for her, since I thought the Halti would help with her pulling problem.

Anyway, my question is, since I have to rule out the Halti (it definitely doesn't come in smaller sizes, we rang the manufacturers to check this), are there any GOOD alternatives that are similar to the Halti that would fit a Chihuahua? I know there is the Gentle Leader, and I'm able to get that at my petshop, but does it come in a size small enough for my Chi.. anyone know?

Well, since we had to return the Halti we now have $20 store credit... so I'll have to think of something good to spend it on, and preferably that would be a new head collar.

There's something called an "Easy Walk Harness".

It's the same concept as the Halti, only it's a harness The leash attaches to the front of the dog and just as the halti does, once the dog pulls, it changes their direction. I've never had first hand experience with them, but my vet recommends them.

Not only that, I'd prefer the harness, only because IF for some strange reason something were to happen when my dog pulled, I wouldn't want him/her injuring their neck.

I think it would be safer for a small dog.

Thanks for the suggestion, Icey! I've never heard of that product before, so I'm not too sure if it's available in Australia but I'll keep an eye out for it. The only thing is that Abby really dislikes harnesses. When we first got her we walked her in a harness (for about 2/3 years) and she'd just kind of lean to one side and lie down on the ground and refuse to move. I don't think she liked the feeling of something being around her like that.... not that she enjoyed having the Halti on her much... Unfortunately normal harness aren't a good tool for training a dog to stop pulling, but this 'Easy Walk Harness' sounds like something I should look into.

You can get the Sporn Harnesses in Australia Swiftwind - I used it on River for a while - which sounds like the same concept as the Easy Walk one Icey menttioned.

It stopped him pulling instantly and the straps had a lamb skin cover on them so it didn't irritate their armpits when they walked. I didn't use it very much though cos I swear it made his front legs sort of bow out a bit and as he was still growing I didn't want to risk damaging anything so you might want to take Abby in to have a look at it on her first.

The collar that came with it did work on its own as well for some strange reason - I think maybe because it was a bit chunkier than any other collar he's had before - don't know if it was just the thought that he didn't want to pull because he didn't want those things around him or not!!

I know there is a head collar out there called the snoot loop-but I have never seen people use it. I bet if you googled it you might find something about it.
