Prey=60 Pack=45 Defence-fight= 25 Defence-flight= 25 And Blackie scores as follows: Prey= 35 Pack= 45 Defence-fight= 40 Defence-flight= 10 Now......what does all of that mean? lol I think I kinda get it though....but how can I use that info to help me train my dogs? |

ok i had to retake it - apparently, you should do it as your dog would NATURALLy do it, not as you have trained them to do.
Prey = 55 Pack = 65 Defense - Fight = 60 Defense - Flight = 15 |

Daberkim, that doesn't make much sense because if the dog has been properly trained to do something then it is him doing it naturally...To take the test relying on what he hasn't been trained to do would not be your dog then, it would be a "bare skeleten" of your dog...am I making any sense?
Cheers! |

O.C. the test is to see what your dog's natural tendencies are or what drives are stronger in your dog. After training, some of that information is skewed or won't show up as well. For instance, Lyric, before he was trained would gladly, any chance he got jump up on the counter and grab anything he could get his hands on. So that is showing some kind of drive....prey I guess, the hunt. Well, when he doesn't attempt to do that now, you can't see that drive in that situation so you don't know if he has that drive or not. (well...of course we know he has that drive, but how much or what is demonstrating that drive?)
The test isn't to find out what your dog is capable of after training. This it to discover a dog's natural drives that are inherent in him and learn how to work with and direct him when you are training. The problem I see with the test is that even putting the training aside, every dog has had experiences in his life. These influence his behaviors. Someone might not actively be training their dog, but because of circustances, his drives still may not be recognized very acurately. For example: If a dog is not socialized enough or has some frightening thing happen to them as a puppy, that could make the flight drive much stronger than it might have otherwise been. So, while this test is a good, ball park type thing to get an idea of what drives our dogs tend to have the strongest, it probably isn't the end all. I noticed while taking the test that I had to search my memory to think back when Lyric was a very young pup how much he jumped up on people. I really don't recall him jumping up much at all and that he learned to not jump in a matter of a few times. There could be other questions in there that I am not sure whether his behavior is due to training or is it innate. Right now he's trying to rest his chin on my keyboard. Is that pack drive? Or is that just obnoxious? LOL. |
