Tricks

I have been really bored lately and decided to start training Lucy some tricks. So far she knows Sit, shake, other paw, high five, roll over, jump, stand, and spin. Currently i'm working on teaching her limp which she is really starting to understand. lol I'm always looking for new things to teach her she is a very fast learner and will do anything for food. lol What tricks does your dog know?

Muggs doesn't know a lot, just the basics. He does bow, that was real easy, I just told him "good bow" every time he stretched. I'm trying to teach him to get his leash now, but it's been challenging because he gets excited about his walk when he sees the leash. But we'll keep working on it. How are you teaching her to limp?

Sophie knows sit, down, stay, paw/other paw, focus, say you're sorry (put her head on her paws when in the down position) say thank you (she barks), spin and stand up.

Sit, Down, Stand, Stay, Wait, Come, Here, Settle, Up, Off, Leave it, Take it, Give, Drop it, Catch it, Find the Bird, Go Lie Down, Get Back, Watch Me, Heel, By Me, Around, Front, Side, Over, Shake, Other Shake, High Five, Other Five, Wave, Other Wave, Touch, Bow, Kennel, Pen, Inside, Outside, Go to Bed, Hush, Enough, Woah, Easy, Baby, Be nice (lots of those are not tricks, I guess, but still commands) -- I think that's pretty much all Akina knows. My other dogs don't know as many commands as Akina, they pretty much just know the basic obedience and manners commands. One of my fosters also knows 'spin', which is a hoot, especially since he's a 60 pound dog. I want to work on more fun stuff with Akina, trying to decide what I should teach her next!

I'm attempting to teach my two "spin" (circle clockwise), twirl (circle counter clocwise), "hugs" (resting head in lap), "crawl" and "circle" (circle around me).

After we get those down good, we'll move onto some other things. I'm going to build some jumps and weaves soon too, so they'll be learning "jump" and "weave".

The most exciting one besides the basics that Tweeder knows is "Take it". No matter what it is he'll pick up the item and then parade around with it until he finds one of us and then gives it to us. It's extremely fun with an empty soda can to show company. He never crushes or pumctures the can. He has a very soft mouth.

Great tricks everyone. Some new ones she knows are spin well she knew it before but now she does it more readily than sit I think it's her favorite. Through (go between my legs) and around (around me) i'm also teaching her to jump over my arms and legs. Freestyle dance maybe? lol

That's funny, because I just recently thought about doing this, too! My brother-in-law just loves to have Akina do some of her commands for him, and she does respond fairly well to just about everyone, but not like she does for her mommy. I think he was trying to get her to do "over" (roll over), but instead of listening to him, she started inching her way across the living room until she got to me, and I said, "Akina, he didn't tell you to army crawl!", and Josh's eyes got wide and he said, "She knows how to army crawl?!" His seriousness was so funny, we all had to laugh, but at the same time I thought, Hmm, I bet I could teach her to do it! So, I might start working on that one, once I figure out the best way to entice her to actually crawl across the floor...

OOO the take it one sounds so cool! I don't think Mandi would ever get that one though .

Mandi knows...
sit, down, wait, paw, other paw, speak, spin, bow, sit pretty, walk, roll (both ways--one was is "egg" the other is "roll" and she often has to perform them one after another. LOL) She learned roll first, but I couldn't think of another word to use so.. . I can't remember any more--so that is prob. it LOL
