Dog & cat problem
My husband & I rescued a 2 year old terrior mix, female. She appears to be part Jack Russell terrior & fox terrior, is very pretty, sweet and obedient for the most part. We have 2 other dogs, both spayed females as her and they were getting along fabulously after only 10 days. However, we also have 2 cats, and she is cat aggressive. Both cats have access to our basement where the dogs cannot get through to them but the cats have always come upstairs with the rest of the "family" as they pleased. With this dog here for 3 weeks now, the one cat will come upstairs if I hold the dog and she hides behind the furniture then. The other cat, a neutered male and usually one that plays with the dogs a bit, is afraid and will not come upstairs at all. This dog is very sensitive and very much wants to do what we request, but she has a difficult time not running after or barking at the cats. How can I train her to leave the cats alone? Any suggestions?

Huh, that's a tough one. I don't know anything about getting a dog to behave well with a cat... The dogs I've had just automatically adjust after a while to the other animals in my household, so I've never had to worry about it. I'm sure someone here could give you a suggestion... Sorry about me not being able to help, but welcome to GlobalPaw!!

When we first got our dog my cat wouldn't be in the same room with him. After about 6 months my cat started to warm up to him and now they love each other. My dog licks her ears and she purrs. They even share the same bed since they are the same size. Just give them time to adjust and they will get along...

I agree with cocoloco. Just give the cats time. My youngest a little over a year old took a long time to want to get near the dogs, but loves my biggest dog. From what I can observe, cats come around in their own time when they want to. Just have patience and one day you may find them best of friends.
