What's the deal?

Last week I had come upstairs to check my emails, and when I went back downstairs, PJ had peed in the dogs' water dish. I emptied it, cleaned it, refilled it and put it back down. Seemed to be just a one off though, and he didn't do it again.

A few days ago, I had just fed the dogs and headed into the kitchen to finish making my own dinner. I could hear them both munching away, and soon after the munching stopped, I heard the dreaded trickling sound. I go into the dining room, and there's PJ with his leg cocked up on Tysa's food dish. I tell him "NO!", and immediately put him outside. (Felt like I had a puppy again..LOL) This wasn't a one off though, he's doing it all the time, apart from when I actually stand in there with the dogs while they eat. He won't do it when I'm in the room, and it only happens right after he's finished eating.

I just moved the beginning of March, and the dining room floor wasn't replace like many of the other floorings in the house. The people who had the house repo'd before I moved in apparently had a TON of pets in here, and PJ had done the odd "tinkle" on sections of the floor that are a bit ripped up (it's laminate in there, a few parts with the wood showing under it). These parts are where he was squirting now and again over the first month or so I was here, just small amounts. But the area where the food dishes are, well there's no damage to the floor there, and it's been cleaned/disinfected quite a few times now. Plus he's not exactly doing it on the floor, it's on Tysa's food dish (and they both have those raised ones). So the one bowl gets good portion fill it, the rest just drips down the side and onto the floor. This also isn't just a small amount of pee, it's a LOT. I've cleaned/disinfected the feeders/dishes too.

I guess I'll have to continue to babysit at feeding times, and go about things like he's a pup again. Boys! *sigh*

I don't remember if PJ is neutered or not... but that'd be my first course of action (with supervision of course).

I know it doesn't work the same for all dogs, but my dog lost that urgent desire to pee on everything when we snip snipped.

Good luck.

I had to laugh BB, Topper will do that if there are other dogs around. He embarassed the heck out of me once when he peed in the water bowl that was being used as part of our walk!! He's tried it a few times since, but it's always a competition/dominance thing.

No, he isn't neutered yet. And I'm not sure it would make a difference now (with this issue), since he's almost 3. He will be getting the snip though, I'm getting tired of seeing those giant hairy "brains" bouncing around.

I'm not overly concerned about it, since he won't do it in front of me. I can keep watch for the few minutes it takes them to eat. Plus he isn't going around just marking/peeing anywhere he feels like. Cause that would drive me batty. LOL
