Kid Scared Of Dog; Dog Scared Of Kid?

I put the gang out today and I have a chain link fence. So Its see threw and my neighbor who lives a bit of a space away. Her daughter will walk over and put her fingers threw the spaces and pet my dogs. Well she came over today and normally I wont let her inside the fence (for many reasons), but her mom was with her so I said they could. This girl is like 8yrs.old, and all of the dogs liked the attention, but when she went to pet Bailey he growled at her. So I walked over and flicked his nose then held his collar. I dont let them get aggressive with kids, specially being an intact male. I nip It in the bud right away. As soon as she started petting him he did It again. I corrected him then her mom pet him. He was fine, then she tried when he was calm and laying down he SNAPPED! Bailey Is a very docile boy and loves people. I'm wondering, Is this because she acts nervous around him? Or Is he possibly scared of her. My friend has a 3yr.old daughter, 5yr.old son and 9yr.old daughter. They've taken him out of walks, gave him baths, and even put a dog jacket on him. He loves kids and is very gentle with youngsters, even infants. Though he's never left alone with them, he's never got aggressive. I thought maybe because he doesnt know her, but she pet him threw the fence all the time?

What could make a dog just act out like this? She didnt even touch him and he already got defensive. Wasnt near any other dogs at the time, and the mother who's never even got near him before had no problems petting him. Just her daughter? I think maybe he knew she was timid around him. Being a male he took advantage of that. Or maybe I'm wrong and he needs another rabbies shot LOL! I just flustered to his problem, I put him In his kennel In the house so she could pet the other dogs. I've never had problems with neighbors and kids stopping to pet them, there loving dogs. I want them to be good with people, though they can be known for there guard dog moments. Which he and my others have before but not with children, and not like that! I hate to say It, but I'm clueless to the problem, did I do something wrong? Was he just being a little stinker, now she's scared of him. Do you really think It's a good idea for my neighbors to think I'm housing Coju . The last thing I need Is everybody saying my dogs a killer. Next the city will tell me to post "Dangerous Dog" on my fence lol. The only other time this has happened Is with Melody when a kid at a park pulled her ear and she snarled at him. Simple warning and Ruphus doesnt like strangers, but he's all boy .
