Miss Fallon Dallon
|
Okay I have three dogs. Fallon a 6 year old female whom Ive had since she was a puppy. It use to be just me and her for a while. Then I got Talena, a female, when she was a pup and she is now 5 years old. I also have Lucky who is a 4 year old male. Ive had him since he was 2 1/2.
Okay Fallon has always been a bit possessive of me. She likes to be under my feet when I sit at the computer or when I'm in the recliner she will be under it. She likes to sleep with me also and always has. I have had some issues with her attacking Talena when she gets near me. Not often but it has happened like when I went on vacation for a week and I got back when they greeted me Fallon attacked Talena when she tried to get near me. I'd say it happens an average of every few months. Talena gets too close to me and Fallon wants to attack her. Well I have had a king size bed this entire time that Talena, Fallon and my two cats and I would all sleep in. I just down graded to a full size and I only let the cats on it with me. I know the dogs want up there so bad but they have blankets on the floor they will be okay lol. Not only that but the bed is not on a typical frame it is on cubes that make it where the dogs can get under the bed with ease so it became a den type area for them. In the past during storms and stuff Fallon would squeeze under the bed to hide so she likes that. Last night however Fallon wound up getting up on the bed with me. Now my bed is so high that Talena cant jump up on it. But she tried and Fallon went ape on her and attacked her. Talena is a super submissive dog anyways and she went straight down to a belly up position. I of course don't and didn't want Fallon on the bed it just all happened that fast. No one got hurt but tempers were high with Fallon and after that she wouldn't let Talena move from where she was. Fallon went under the bed and would growl every time Talena would move. This went on for a few minutes. My thing is how do I stop this behavior? Like I said it doesn't happen that often but often enough for me, ya know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! They really are pals besides these few and far incidences ![]() |

Perhaps removing Fallon from the room (locking her out) the second she shows any aggression towards Talena and allowing her in again when she's calmed down?
Agression = isolation.....Calm friendly dog = attention and fun. Sort of like a time out for kids. Poor Talena. And Fallon looks like such an angel in her pictures. lolCass. |

I don't really know how I'd go about solving the problem, but Cass' idea sounds good. I'd give it a try and see how it goes.

Hmm seems like the bedthing I had... with my fursisters and halfsister...
i plain do not tolerate it, It is my bed and I decide who gets to sleep on it and who don't. When Anka/Aika was bout to hit the testingstage and Anka decided Aika could not be on the bed, so she snarled at her... that is when she went "flying" from the bed, too.... Everytime she displayed any agression towards Aika she got pushed from the bed with the apropriet "scolding". Same thing happened to Aika when she tried it with Brisa... very effective... They just lost the privilage being in bed that instant.. after a while, when they were nice I invided them back into bed, and all was fine... You have to keep in mind that you decide who is close to you and who not. Just make it clear in the way your dogs understand. I had to get pretty stern with my girls but I did it right away and in a manner they understood. Leaving no doubts.... |

Charlotte is very possessive of my mom..and I always have to tell my mom that when Charlotte is growling in her lap, or near her because another dog is trying to get attention, she NEEDS to put Charlotte on the floor and ignore her..but what does my mom do? She GIVES Charlotte what she wants, and pets her and talks to her and encourages the growling.
A few weeks ago (Well, more like a month) Zen had started showing food aggression (I made a thread about it), and I immediately put him in time out in the bathroom away from the food and other dogs, and he is a very calm dog now. He has no issues whatsoever, because for about a week I had to put him in the bathroom everytime he growled over food..and he learned quickly. So I second the isolation idea ![]() |

Well she did it again last night from the couch. Fallon was not happy that the cat got on the couch and started growling. I told her to get down and she just growled louder. I got her off the couch and lead he r to the next room and shut the door. We did this about three times before she stopped growling at the others.
