I don't but I think they are a fantastic idea, I think it'd be much easier to teach a reliable recall with a whistle then relying on your voice particularly in situations where it's hard to be heard.

Haven't used a whistle to train with, but I've taught my guys to come from a far distance to my own whistle. They respond to it in a heart beat, and are much more reliable coming than to my voice command. I think a whistle would be a good idea.

I taught my dogs to come, not only to verbal things like "let's go" or "come," but for fun, to a "silent" whistle, one of those kind that only they can hear. They also come to my own whistle, several short, staccato whistles. I think whistles are great because they're so distinctive. But it's probably a good idea to get them use to sounds you can make too in case you don't have a whistle with you some time.

I whistle with my lips for recall, I'm too lazy to keep a whistle on-hand. I also use a verbal command, "here". I find the whistle gives a more reliable recall though.

I use my lip\tooth whistle all the time and a real whistle when were out in teh field off leash. Some people don't like whistles though because they "disturb" the peacfullness of the outdoors.
Maybe I"ll have to try one fo those "silernt" dog whistles Carrie mentioned I hand't even thought of that. |
