What's your training goal this week?

Thought I'd revisit this one

So what are you upto this week?

Bark training at the house and in the car is our focus, we've dabbled in it without much luck so we are going to take a look at what's going wrong and how we can communicate with Hank better. Our goal is to let him alert bark (1-2 barks) but not obsess. We'll see how it goes, I might be asking for advice soon

Good luck. Currently i'm clicker training maggie. I want to be able to get through clipping all her nails without getting bitten. This will take a lot of time. I have gotten through three nails so far without her showing any sign of being uncomfortable.

This week I want to try and work on some scent discrimination and do some dumbbell work. Hopefully the weather won't be too awful on the weekend as I want to do a bit of heelwork as well but will see how that goes.

I'll be new car shopping the next couple of days, but... Thanks to this post, and the new fence i've put around the property, I'm going to start constructing my own agility course for Peet and Kay. Peety has the basics of weave poles (and i'm talking rudimentary) but Kaytee is a stranger to the whole idea. Last class I was in with Peety, the instructor after hearing Peety bark for abit at over-zealous Borzoi, looked at me and my dog and said, "You know that borzoi considers your dog vermin!!"

I guess she wasn't a jackrussell person?

Talk about leaving a bad taste in my mouth for agility class.

Shame on that person!!! JRTs are not for everybody but shouldn't be picked on eighter. Ignore the ignorance!!! Enjoy agility...I loved doing it with our boxer..now gone but he was always up for the challenge. Have fun beyond all else!!! Once he gets the general idea go to playgrounds and our boxer tried all the obsticals,LOL Yes, he tried a rope mesh ladder that left us all laughing and him a genious!!!

Well, its not my own dog. But thisweek my goal is to correct a behavioral problem in a client dog -nipping and herding children.

I'm not working on anything really. Well the younger dog, I guess we're working on getting closer finishes on fronts to the recall. Other than that, nothing too exciting. I just had a trial with my older girl, so we're in fun mode now, no real training for certain exercises.

Don't really have any training goals for this week but "medical" goals. Chloe is still giving me a headache on that issue...she's off the meds she was on and her poop is firming up, but if she has any more boughts of vomiting and/or diaharrea then I'm going to take her in for a blood panel.

I'm also puzzling over her personality at the moment...my brother shot of one bottle rocket yesterday and three hours later still found Chloe cowering in terror underneath a coat rack. She refused to move all that evening and if I took her outside she would freak.

Glad to see so many of you here We're off to a rough start so I'll be posting about that in a different thread...maybe some of you will have suggestions for us to try.

How's everyone doing?

Ritz - sorry to hear about Chloe, hope she feels better soon and get back into training, I know you had a long list for the summer.

Rivsky - Are you training for more competitions or for fun?

Sentry - Potty training, although not fun to clean up all the misses (I call them misses, instead of messes) is very rewarding when you're done. Hopefully he catches on super quick

GSD - I missed your competition results...did you post them? How did you guys do?

yeah, we did ok

she got her II with some mistakes from me. In the retrieves, the flat one was a faulty exercise. She was twitching her ear and shaking when she came back. Something was in there, and I should have just grabbed the dumbell and outed her, but I waited for her to settle which was a mistake on my part. Oh well, next time.

Other than that the protection part was pretty good, she was forging a little on the heeling and a little less intense on the guarding than I'd like, but when you need all the elements of all three phases to come together on one day, there's always something work on.

Here's links to the OB and protection part of the trial

Not sure if we're just training for fun or for competition at this stage Dogs4Life. I know he'll be able to do the ringwork in both open and hopefully UD eventually but we'll have to tackle out of sight stays first and I'm not 100% sure how he's going to cope with that. If it stresses him out too much we won't go any further but I'll still train the ringwork anyway as he's an absolutely awesome first dog to have in terms of me learning how to teach different exercises.

Will have to come back in later tonight and watch your videos GSD!

Well I'm training myself to not procrastinate and do things when I say I'm going to do them..........OH, you mean with the DOGS! LOL

Nothing much planned really, just putzing around and repeating things they already know. I'm having a selfish week and doing my own self betterment exercises rather than the dogs for once. I've spent so much time and energy on them for the past year or so, that I started to let other things just slide on by. Doesn't mean I'll be ignoring the dogs, not at all!

We've gotten better with the basics, but her aggression issues have popped back up recentally and it is concerning me...I'm going to be making a thread about that.

Great vids GSD!!

She was really raring to go in the protection part wasn't she. Looks like a LOT of work that all needs to come together on the one day.

Apologies for the stupid question, are those dumbbells really as heavy as they look??
