Yesterday we walked around the park and Iam so proud of my little man.... As you all know I do have him on the prong and am hoping to be on a buckle... I brought more treats with me and he is walking a very nice heal with barely any reminder from the prong.... Not only that he usually freaks out when he see's other dogs where he lunges at them barking and whining, not sure if he would bite or not but I don't chance it because his behaviour may just start a dog fight... Anyhow Junior know's the leave it command and we walked passed alot of dogs in the park, just as I seen them I would tell him leave it (it was said before he noticed) as we walked by I would say leave it then I would treat and tell him good boy. We walked by with not as much as a whimper and a pull. The first dog he pulled and whimpered and the second and everyone after walked by like a real little gentleman. Iam so impressed with him and he is getting to be a real treat to take out.... The whole time Iam saying to my hubby look he is walking so nice with barley a reminder to heal and didn't even freak out like usuall with other dogs.... Iam hoping he is just as good on our next walk. We try to go everyday or at least 3 times a week depending how it is outside..... Compared to how he usually is this is a real improvement and a big step forward with him

Yeah!!! That's exciting Dollface! What an improvement! He's finally getting the idea that he doesn't have to react like that. It will just get better and better. Good job! Now, will you soon take a break, and come work with Lyric for me? He's got the same problem. He is also getting better, but not that much better.

Thanks Carrie
![]() I was just reading your post, tried to write down what I did and hope you can use some of it... I know how you feel and it can get so frustrating but he will soon get there after a lot of patience and hard dedicated work on both parts, he's a smart dog and has a dedicated mom. Carrie I'll be right over and I'll give you a hand, I'll bring my lil terror too then we will have 2 monsters to deal with lol ![]() |

Oh yes...your ideas should help a lot. I'm really turning on the speed now...gotta stop being lazy.
It is definitely very embarrassing (lol) when he does that. And it's not a good thing for people to see a Doberman doing that. It will just perpetuate the discrimination they already get. People don't realize that dog-dog aggression is not that unusual and that it doesn't mean that the dog is people aggressive. Lyric is clearly not one bit people aggressive. He's so good and gentlemanly around people. So, if I can just get him to chill out when he sees another dog, we'll be in business. LOL. |

Your lucky he likes people, Junior (my bostons') no fault of theirs but mine for not socializing them properly and the neighbour kids (where we ust to live) made them leary of people... I also have two things there to work on
We were in the washroom at the park and the lady was petting him and no problems he just loved it so Iam very impressed with his progress. T-bone well she is getting there, my hubby is working with her cause he walks her. T-bone will not take treats from strangers and if she feels unsure she won't even take treats from me... Junior well he will eat anything pretty much doesn't matter who offers it. t-bone walks at heal real nice but when hubby is walking her she tries to heal at my heal and not his lolI have people that walk by thinking they are either lil boxers and alot of people think they are lil pitts. When they act like little freaks doesn't make it any better... I know I can walk Junior and T-Bone together and Tiva and Dozer together. If I walk Junior and Tiva together he gets all protective over Tiva. They are getting alot better around people we usually make a point of taking them (Junior,T-Bone) to the park when things are going on, dogjog, Canada day ect just for the socialization... Tiva well she loves everyone and can be a bratt around some dogs... When the kids are out front with their friends I'll have Taz and Tiva outside and they play with the kids in the front yard and sometimes the neighbours toy poodle, of course either my hubby or I am out there... |

Yesterday, a guy down by the little store was fascinated with Lyric and patting him. He asked if he was a one man dog and if he obeyed anyone else's commands. I said, "I don't know. Why don't you ask him to sit." As soon as Lyric heard me say, "sit" in that sentence, he sat. LOL. So, we changed the subject for a minute and Lyric got up, and then the guy asked him to sit. And he sat for him. So, he's not opposed to minding someone else. He recognises most people as as being the ones who call the shots....as long as the shots are reasonable. LOL. |

He's very well mannered, mine would probably look and say you asked me what
Guess Lyric would have pretty big teeth compared to my boston terrors lolWhen hubby is walking T-Bone she still listens to me better then him, I say heel to Junior she heels, I say sit she sits lol Maybe because Iam the one that feeds them and does everything with them... They will listen to him but they listen to me more.... We took Tiva and Dozer out for a walk and of course hubby has to walk Dozer cause he's bigger then Tiva, all the time hubby is coaxing and praising Dozer to walk at heel. Dozer would wiggle his butt side ways towards a heal but all the time pulling and leaning sidways away from him trying to catch up to me. Even when I lagged behind or went far ahead never made a difference, he figured it was because of Tiva. Nope he just wanted his mommy (human mommy, not Tiva) lol I had him walking at heel and said is this what you were trying to do, then he says well if I was nagged at all day long I would listen just as well too what a Bu***r he is Either way I had a laugh lmao |

That's funny! Yeah....lots of dogs will mind their provider better than someone else. And I don't think Lyric will always mind someone else. I've seen him not obey when someone else asked him to do something. But this guy, he must have liked. Or maybe because I was standing right there and he knew we were talking about him. LOL.
My last GSD loved everyone in the family, of course. He minded pretty well my husband and kids when they'd ask him something inside, like sit or go lie down. But outside in the open he wouldn't come very well to my husband and he would say, in his heavy Czech accent, "Car-o-line, would you call your-r-r-r (roll the tongue) dog?" LOL. And this dog had the sharpest, most perfect recall of any dog I've ever seen. But that was for me. |
