angel is chewing on EVERYTHING..
Ok, yet another bad thing to happen for me today...I am getting so frustrated! My parents made me take angel to my aunts today and my aunt is doing some training with her for me because my mom doesn't think i can do it myself and she gave me 2 choices it was either that or she be tied outside like cherokiee...NOT going to happen. Any suggestions anyone?? I want my girl back home....oh and the problem is like said in the title she has been chewing on everything...

What breed is Angel? But no matter the breed, puppies chew. There is no avoiding it. If you didn't want a dog chewing, you shouldn't have gotten a puppy.
Maybe you could talk your mom into letting you keep her if you do obedience classes with her? Then they would teach you how to train your dog, and your dog would get trained. IMO, if you let somebody else train your dog for you, the dog won't respect you as much. And training is an exallent time for bonding. I've trained both of my dogs and they'll listen to me no problem, but since the other memebers of my family haven't trained them and make them mind, they don't listen to them as well. I also have to disagree with your parents about chaining a dog that isn't trained. If you weren't going to train the dog, or you were going to throw a fit at the slightest mistake from the dog, you shouldn't have gotten a dog in the first place. Chaining a dog will only make it worse, not better. Now, I'm not saying you are a bad dog owner, but your parents are thrilling me. |

Angel is a GSD/Wolf mix and she is not exactly a pup, and I trained there rottweiler so I know how to train a dog it's not that and I never said that I didn't expect her to chew it's my parents right at the moment I am honestly hating them....

If you can't keep your eye on the dog and it chews there's nothing you can do. Watch your dog at all times. If you can't he better be somewhere that he can't chew on something. If your parents think that chaining a GSD/ wolf mix outside is a good idea or even a plausible course of action, find a wolf hybrid rescue and give them the dog. They will know how to take care of it. I'd get in touch with some anyway, as training a wolf hybrid is a lot different than training a rott, or gsd, or any domesticated dog. Sorry I myself don't have much info other than to contact some hybrid rescue organizations, they deal with this stuff every day and will be of much greater service than most of us can be I think.

I have already contacted a rescue place for some information and they were alot of help. I do not want to have to get rid of her, I guess I just need to sit down with my parents and have a nice long talk. if I get rid of her I won't be aloud to have another dog and I don't think another dog could replace her anyhow. I was hoping for some help no training her but it looks like I am getting negativity instead. I had just left a forum because of all the negativity and stuff....I don't want to leave here there are alot of great people here but I have seen alot of negativity in post here also.

flyn I talked to someone who runs a hybrid rescue. I have tryed talking to them about it but in many cases my parents are stubborn. I should be able to talk them into being more positive though I just need to figure out what words to use, I kindu blew up when the whole thing went down so...maybe that wasnt the way to make matters better. I do keep a good eye on her but when I am sleeping I can't really do that, would it be ok to tie her near my bed when I'm sleeping so she doesn't terrorize the house because usually she sleeps with me but I guess she wanders
? Is there any way to train a dog to tell the difference between toys and our stuff? Also I will note she doesn't have much wolf in her her mom was GSD/Lab and her dad was GSD/wolf and they think he had a bit of husky also. I just usually don't think to mention the other breeds mainly the main breeds which in my introduction post I mentioned the lab in her. |

Angel, I know you've had a hard week. Let's start over. Let's say you have a German Shepard mix. You may not want to crate train, but I think if you want to fight to keep your dog, you need to. If she's crated at night in your room, she can't wander and get into trouble. She should be in the crate whenever somebody can't watch her. Do you need some information about crate training?

I know how to crate train the problem is getting the crate at the moment we are tight on money and can't get one the ones in the pet shops where I live are quite expensive. The last time I looked at the shop we have here crates for dogs her size are almost 90 dollars I don't have that kind of money.

Then you'll have to get creative! Can you make a kennel for her? Maybe your folks will help you.
How about plywood panels nailed together (with holes drilled for air and a door, of course)? Maybe a ready-made lattice work panel cut to size? How about a baby gate? Maybe some chain link fence? A box that a stove came in? Just throwing out some food for thought. |

I used to make cages for my rabbits out of fencing that has very small holes and is very sturdy. It doesn't cost much and making a crate with it shouldn't cost much. Also look in all the newspapers. Sometimes you will find someone selling a crate. Look into garage sales. Crating your dog at night when you go to bed is necessary. Throw in a kong for her to chew on. I do hope it all works out for you.

Good luck Angel! My own two pups chew on everything....LOL. They chew on everything that isn't theirs; their toys are in perfect condition, because they only eat my stuff LOL.

Yup...just keep as much out of her reach as possible and there's no substitue for supervision....just like with a toddler baby. They're into everything and they don't quit over night. (encouraging, isn't it?) Just keep showing her what her toys are and rewarding for her chewing on them. And keep her from rewarding herself by getting your good stuff. Everytime she gets something, she is being rewarded and that slows the progress. Good luck! Have fun though...with your pup. |

Perhaps it'd be a good idea to point it out to your parents that statistics show that a chained dog is apt to become aggressive more so than a fenced dog. I could get into the whole why's about it but that's not what this post is about.
For the chewing, she'll really need to be in a pen/crate.dog-safe room when you can't watch her because just ;etting her roam freely isn't going to solve anything. You can make a great crate out of some wood and durable wire mesh (must be thicker than chicken wire though or the dog could chew out). How to make it is kind of hard to explain but I'm sure there are some good blueprints on the internet you could look up. When I wouild catch my big husky-boy chewing on something he wasn't supposed to I'd shout "Hey!" and at the same time clap my hand and stomp my foot in his direction which would make him stop, then I'd grab what ever it was that he had and give him his own toy and reward him for chewing on it. The hey/clap/stomp thing let him no that what he was doing displeased me and also surprised him which would momentarily stop his chewing, then the reward would let him know that chewing his own toys made me happy. |
