Hello. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or input for my problem. I have a 1 and a half year old Malti-poo who is very intelligent. She was potty trained very well, however she has two homes. One is an apartment and the other a home with a dog door. She was first trained with the dog door and did well. Then she was trained to go by the back door of the apartment and does great with that. However there is a new puppy who is about 6 months old who is at the house. She is now trained with the dog door. My dog, Skittles, however, is now having frequent accidents in the house. We first assumed it was the puppy but then discoverd otherwise. We can't figure out why. The two explinations we came up with is that we live in Arizona and it's usually about 107 degrees outside and perhaps she would rather not go out in the heat. The other is that because Coconut, the other puppy is now going outside there might be a territory issue with that. I hate keeping her in a restricted area all the time but I don't know what else to do. Can anyone help?

I've read that older dogs can smell a puppy's urine and then also pees in the house. If this is the case...get yourself a black light and some natures miracle and clean up all traces of urine! Good Luck! And TRY to stay patient!

Thanks for your suggestion, however, I have a steam cleaner with special pet odor formula and have been using it all the time. I do know once they smell the odor they will think it's a good spot. Most cleaners alone won't handle it but I've heard steam cleaning with special pet formulas work the best. But we're still having problems. In fact the place of choice is on towels and clothes that have missed the hamper or are on the bathroom floor. I've been trying to rid of these temptations, but i'd almost rather have her pee ona towel than the carpet...

My little Mazie has almost got it to where she lets us know when she wants to go outside. However, she does have her little accidents... For example: This morning, I woke up and she followed me out my door.. I went down about 6 stairs, telling her to come on down.. I didn't hear her coming, so I turned around and saw her squatting in the middle of the floor..
I guess I'll just have to keep carrying her outside from my room until she either understands that outside is a place to do her business...or until she gets too heavy for me to carry. I'd like to find some enzyme remover to spray on the rug, but I don't know of any good brands out there... Is "Nature's Miracle" a brand of enzyme remover? Is it any good? Thanks for your input ![]() -J |

my lil 8 week old is sort of potty trained, but the other day when we fed him in his crate he did a wee in there. When he finished eating, Jake (who is nearly 6 yrs old and very well potty trained) rushed into bennies crate to lick the bowl and then he did a wee over bennies wee inside the crate. And i can only think that it must be a territory thing.
Jake always covers bennies wees out in the garden, so when he did it in the crate it was only what comes naturally to him (being quite a dominant dog) |
