Bored dog
School had started and there usually isnt any one home in the morning. My chi stays at home everyday normally just lays there napping away. She gets out for a walk when i get home, gets out to eat around 7 and for another walk, then gets out at night to pee and back to sleep again.
(around 70% of the day napping and 30% of the day being active) She seems pretty bored, and lays there alot. She is healthy and we had a check up as well as fecal exam. She use to be with a pug but because we can only take care of 1 pet (never had a pet) we took only her. Is this the normal behavior for a chi? Is she really bored? I try to spend more time with her but with all the school work, this is all i can do. Is this not enough for my chi? should I find a better senior owner who have time to spend with her? Sorry posted in the wrong place, was putting it down under behavior |

My Chi does the same.... Just sleeps a lot. Although a dog may be happy to sleep all day, it should be out getting some sort of exercise other than just potty walks. Just like us humans, dogs need almost daily exercise to stay fit and healthy. Our Chi gets enough of it running around the house chasing our other dogs, and going outside and chasing sticks and leaves fluttering through the yard.
If you think she might be bored, you might try giving her her meals in a Kong, a hollow rubber toy shaped like a snowman. You can put her food in there with a little peanut butter or canned dog food, freeze it overnight, and give it to her. She'll have to work to free her food out of there, and it'll help stimulate her. Try to get her walked as often as possible as well. And you can do short five minute training sessions whenever you have some spare time. |

It's a tough one. My pup was the same, and he was so lazy during the day that I just couldn't get him to do anything else than sleep. So I got another pup to keep him company, and now they occasionaly play during the day, although they still sleep most of the day. So I think it's just normal.

shes 7 now. She seems to be bored more than normal in the last couple month. She gets out when its time for a walk, when I comes home, and at night (stays up late chewing stuff on the bed).
There doesnt seems to be anything wrong with her, she seems to be pretty active when shes out, plays catch then when shes tired she just naps away. I use to take her for long walks in the summer, but havent been doing it for weeks, she seems to be tired out faster. |
