Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

*This thread is about the whole intire book, so contains spoilers*

OMG, so I LOVED the book!

I was very happy with the way everything tied together at the end. The plot was incredible. Everything that had happened in previous books had so much to do with what unfolded in the end. It was wonderful.

*sigh* Alas, but now I know I am cursed. Every single one (except Hagrid and Fang) of my favorite characters died. Every single one! Snape, Lupin, Tonks, Dobby... Even Fred, although George was my favorite of the twins.
I was very excited to finally delve into Snape's memories...I knew that he wasn't an evil git! I had half wished that when Harry went up into Dumbledore's office, there would have been a picture of Snape hanging up (as he was a Headmaster) and Harry would have been able to talk to him.

When Harry "died", or was knocked unconscience or whatever, what did the flayed baby thing represent? Was that the part of Voldemort's soul that had taken refuge in Harry?

And the epilouge was good as well.

Don't even bother to mention that Harry blew up Hedwig.

I was very please to learn some more about Snape too. I agree, the plot was incredible. Everything fits together so well in her books. I could have done without all the Dumbledore info, and had a bit more about some of the other characters (snape and such, or what the Order was doing that whole time. Or maybe a bit more Potterwatch, that was cool, lol.). But oh well, I didn't mind reading a bit more about Dumbledore.

lol I loved when Fred and George were talking about George's ear. "The whole wide world of ear related humor and you chose holey"

P.S. Lupin was one of my favourites too! Lupin and Sirius were such great characters.

Oh, I know! Hedwig was the best...I don't know WHY she had to die. I suppose she would have been too much "trouble" to keep around while they were in hiding. And what ever happened to Pig or Crookshanks? I loved Pig, he was the best. Crazy owl.

It was interesting learning about Dumbledore, but it seemed to drag on. What I thought was funny was that toward during the book my view of Snape moved up some notches, and my veiw of Dumbledore went down some, then to move back up towards the end. Who would have thought that I would have Snape on the same level as Dumbledore!

The Potterwatch was awsome. LOL It had me cracking up. THe whole "Rodent? I told you, I'm Raiper!" ordeal.

And yep, the whole "holey" bit..."How do you feel?"
"Saint like."
"Because I'm holey. Get it? Hole-y?" ROFLMAO

(Note, these quotes are from momery so they aren't right, but you get the gist of it. lol)

What happened to Lupin and Tonk's baby boy? I know that he is around durning the Epilouge, but did Harry have any part in raising him since he was named godfather, or did Tonk's mother raise him? That part I didn't quite understand, but oh well.

Oh it wasn't the saint-like holey that had me laughing as much as his twin's reaction...

"Pathetic... a whole wide world of ear related humor and your chose holey"

LMAO

Yes, the dumbledore part did drag on, but I agree, interesting how Dumblyborr and Snape changed. I thought that was a really good way to wrap up snape!

Harry will probably be raising him. Although I'm surprised he wasn't putting Teddy on the train in the last chapter too. Or was he? I can't remember. lol I didn't really like that chapter much, so I didn't pay much attention the 2nd time I read it.

Well, pig and CS I reckon they just left behind at the Burrow. Where as Hedwig was actually falling and probably would have died, either from impact or the Death Eaters. Anyways, this way he blew up a bunch of DE at the same time.

Oh, I know, that is why I love Fred and George...they see the humour in everything. LOL They must have been such fun characters to right about.

Teddy would have been 19 at the time that last chapter was written, so would he have been going to Hogwarts? I know James was complaining that he was snogging someone (got to love little kids! ) so I know he was there...

*sigh* I missed Pig though. LOL Too bad he couldn't have went with them. And I loved the part when at the end of the book they were trying to get through the Whomping Willow and Hermione yelled at Ron, "Are you a Wizard or not?!?" because didn't Ron (or Harry) yell that at Hermione in the very first book when she was trying to light a fire and was complaining because she didnt' have any matches? lol

Yea, but why would he be there is he was 19... To see his god-cousins or whatever they are off? Or just to see the girl? Ah, maybe we'll never know!

Yes, I love that line too. When she was battling the devils snare... and then the line comes back. It was Ron who said it.

Another aspect I loved was the Taboo on the Word ....... uh... you-know-who. What a great idea! Good idea for He Who Must Not Be Named and JK Rowling.

JK talks about writing more Harry books, but says her priority right now is catching whoever leaked it to the internet. I feel so terrible about that! She must be sooooo ticked! She was so careful about what she said to people, making sure she only told certain parts about it. She made sure not a soul knew! She did such an amazing job talling certain parts and not others... and to have the book leaked to the internet before it's release. I hope they catch the scum bag who did that and put him in Azkaban for a long while.

We also forgot to mention Alastor "Mad Eye" Moody. He was another of my favourite characters Also Pettegrew. I was really interested in Jame's years at Hogwarts, almost as much as Harry's. My favourite character of all time must be Sirius. He is just so cool, spent all those years in azkaban, broke out, never went insane, everyone thinks he's a crazy murderer, he can turn into a grim, he's just the best character ever written! Lupin must have been my 2nd favourite character. He could turn into a werewolf, he's smart and skilled, he attacks people and children before asking security questions (I don't know why but I really loved that part. I love the security questions... it's just so cool. I'm going to always ask people security questions from now on... Just for fun )

That Taboo was a great idea. And for a while I thought Ron was just being a chicken because he didn't want to say the name!

Ooohhhh, more Harry books? Cool! That would be really neat if she could do a spin off into the life James, Snape, Lilly, Sirius, and Lupin's Hogwart days.
I know, when I heard about the leak I was just disgusted. I hope they catch who did it to.

I hated Pettigrew. I thought he was a slimeball coward who didn't deserve to live. LOL Kind of like Mundungous at least 'Dung chose the right side! When he died I kind of felt like, "serves him right." although the reason he died was sad...he died because for a split second he thought about showing mercy.

Sirius was my alltime favorite. That is what I hated about the movies...they never showed Sirius. And then when he was most prominant, they killed him off without a tear. Ah, oh well....
Lupin was also totally cool. I think it was cool that JKR made friends of Harry's father become a major role in Harry's life.

LOL And wasn't it Lupin (or was it Mad Eye?) who in the 5th book asked Harry what his patronus was? And then in the 5th book they were asking eaching other security questions and Mr. Weasley was getting fed up with Molly's persistance at it. lol Or something like that...I remember something funny about it, but just not what! lol

I know, Harry didn't do anything when Sirius died. I mean, he was supposed to be like running around swearing and trying to kill Bellatrix Lestrange. He was way more upset when Dudley was calling him names then when his godfather died. Another little mess up I noticed was he pulled out his wand and thretened Dudley when Big D's muggle friends were around. XD Getting off topic of the deathly hallows, but I can't believe JKR approved some of the things in those movies...

I know, I just love the security questions! lmao

I wasn't really upset Pettegrew died either, but it seemed right to mention him seeing as he's dead. Potterwatch would have mentioned it.

And this is the first book where I've really been intrigued at Kingsley lol he's "royal" lol I liked that little side joke... Royal: KINGsley. lol! But I really like the character of Kingsley now.

I wonder if Alastor really is dead... hmmmmm.......

I love snape's little twists lol. I mean, why didn't we see that one coming? lol

I loved the book. The death that hit me hardest was dobby. The fact that Harry dug the grave himself brought a small tear to my eye. I loved the fact that Narcissa didn't give away the fact that Harry was still alive.
I believe from reading some harry potter forums that the girl that Teddy was kissing was Fleur and Bill's daughter.
Overall the book was great. I wish JKR would have gone through a little more detail in the Epilogue such as Harry's job, what happened to Luna, who raised Teddy, and who was the new headmaster at hogwarts. I did hear in the interview that JKR is wrighting a Harry potter encyclopedia to explain more about all the characters. I will definately read that. I am extremely sad that it's over though...

I will be reading the encyclopedia too, in hopes that a few more mysteries will be solved.

I never realkly was crazy about dobby, I know lots of people that were obsessed with him and I suppose he's a good enough character, but he'll never match Sirius or Lupin.

LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one who was crying a bit during Harry Potter... :blush remind me never to read horror novels.

Cool, an encyclopediea (or however you spell the darn word!)? That will be neat. When I read the LOTR books I loved to flip through the back of the last book and read up on the timelines, languages, and such.

Dobby was a cool character. I loved his attitude and he always made me laugh. And I also loved how Kreacher turned around and became a happy elf. Even though he's fictional, just goes to show you what a little compassion, friendship, and love will do to a person (er, elf).

Oh, I know! Ever since Voldemort came back, I've always thought that Lucius was getting cold feet, the coward. He was all show and no real loyalty. Narcissa, I thought, never really did want to follow the Dark Lord when she found out it would endanger Draco. She didn't want anything to happen to him.

I teared up a couple of times...I think the only book that I've cried cried (like, tears streaming down my face) on was Where the Red Fern Grows.
Although, I'm sure my family thought I was nutty because during the final chapters I was yelling at the book and saying things like, "Don't do it you idiot!" "Oh my God!!! He just died!" "Noooo, you can't be serious!" "Holy crap!" "That's so sad!" "Awwwww." and the like.

Quote:

Hahaha, I didn't even catch that. I was happy to find out that he was the new Minister of Magic (or temporarly, anyways). I've always liked Kingsley since he was introduced.

Now that I know how everything ties together and the background of different people, I think I'm going to have to re-read the series. That way, I can see what all points towards how it ended. Although reading through that first book is going to be a drag, and I think my book three is falling apart...LOL

What did you all think of Dudley turning a new cheek? I thought that it summed things up rather well. I also liked that Vernon still couldn't really care less about Harry, and that Petunia was still torn about him...and from Snape's memories, now we know why.

I think they made book three with a different printing company, or they used cheap materials or something, because everyone I've spoken to has said their book three is falling apart much faster then their other HP books.

LMAO! Your descriptiopn of crying during books is exactly the same as mine. The only book I've actually cried in was Where the red fern grows... I did get watery-eyed a few times during HP7 though. lol

Yes, I really liked how Kreacher turned out. He was a lot more of an in-depth character then she first introduced him as. Even just towards the end of Kreachers first book it seemed there was a lot more about him then we originally saw.

Just want to say LOL my guess was right. We knew Sirius had a brother named Regulus, and I guessed that it would be Regulus A____ Black. JKR didn't tell us what his middle initial was, so I wasn't positive. But I was right! lol!

P.S. What part are you talking about with Narcissa ? I'm confused lol, which part didn't she give away that Harry was alive?

It happened at the end of the book. Harry had just woken up from his whole dream where he was talking with dumbledore. Voldemort told narcissa to check if harry was alive but she didn't give up that he was still alive she told voldemort that he was dead.
The only books I have cried over were where the red fern grows, the guardian, and marley and me. All those books were about dogs

I just teared up a little bit during the point where harry was burying dobby. I didn't get that upset over the others because nobody showed any emotion in the book it was just a few words like Fred is dead or something and then it goes back into the action.

I had to pause in my reading when Lupin, Tonks, and Snape died, just to let the whole fact sink in.

Oh, and Percy! I was speechless when he bowled through the door to help fight! And then when he was crying over Fred....that was awful.
