If she has been in heat for three weeks, she is probably nearing the end of her cycle. Most females are only in heat for about 3 weeks. The time a female will generally accept a male is (I'm pretty sure) about at the 10 day mark. I have no idea how long they are willing to accept a male, but I can only imagine once their bodies start to "leave" the heat cycle, that they will reject a male.
If she still did this during the proper time frame, I'd take her in to have her checked by a vet. There might be an underlying problem that you don't notice, which may cause her to reject a male. But only a vet would be able to tell. I do have to say, I don't condone breeding, and I feel your best bet is to have your dogs spayed/neutered. There are just too many unwanted dogs in this world, and there are not enough people to help them. Please do not contribute to the many unwanted dogs that are PTS each year. |

Please do more research before you breed your girl. She really shouldn't be bred so young.
Here is a list of the genetic disorders common to dachshunds. Some of these can be crippling or fatal. Please, make sure to do the testing (by a specialized vet - not just your general practice vet) to be sure that you are not passing any of these on to puppies. Most important: Acanthosis nigricans Intervertebral disk disease Other disorders seen in this breed: Hypothyroidism Microphthalmia Mitral valve disease Optic Nerve Hypoplasia Pannus Pattern baldness Progressive retinal atrophy Seborrhea Sick sinus syndrome von Willebrand's disease Color dilution alopecia (blue dachshund) Epilepsy Glaucomal Keratoconjunctivitis sicca Portosystemic shunt Sebaceous adenitis Elbow dysplasia (Ununited anconeal process) |

actually we are going to spay and neuter our dogs. we have sold a few pups and it has been hard work and one of my dogs got very sick from having pups and started losing fur but now that she hasn't been nursing anymore she seems more healthy and i'd rather have her healthy than little pups that are require a lot of care. So I guess it's a good thing they didn't breed, thanks for the info tho.
