Dont know if this is Appropriate
I dont know if this is appropriate not trying to start a religous conversation here but I wa sflicking through the chanels last night and their was a priest on and I stopped cause he was reading a letter someone wrote asking if dogs go to heaven. I couldnt believe it he said "No". As people have quoted before me "My dogs will make it into heaven way before me" I just found that so said to hear him say that. He said the love we have for them will follow us or something like that. I was just spell bound to hear such a thing? He didnt explain really where they go but it was on EWTN. Just thought that was a very sad commnet to hear. I believe they all go to heaven and wait at the rainbow bridge..

I really don't like these (American) t.v.-priests! I have seen them a couple of time on television and they preach as if its all fact! It is all about 'believe' and I guess if and when he gets to heaven he will be very surprised!

I dunno. I would love to believe they go to heaven. I don't know why God would give us such wonderful creatures and then not let them go to heaven; it wouldn't be my perfect heaven, without animals. But, apparantly pretty much all we'll be doing up there is worshipping God, so I'm not sure if we'll have time for animals.
I hope I'll see my boys up there. |

This matter does really deem inappropriate because people have such varied beliefs. Some, like me believe the Bible and its teaching(but then you have the different Bibles and which one to read) and some people just believe that everything goes to dust while others believe what they are taught.
In the Bible, it says that only people have souls and therefore we can understand how we came about how we were made and how God made us. It also says that only people who accept that Christ died on the cross to save mankind will go to Heaven (their names written in The Book of Life). Then you can only assume that animals do not have souls nor any knowledge of beyond pure instinct, therefore they do not go to Heaven on that bases. It also says, as someelse stated, that most of the time those in Heaven will be worshipping God or having fellowship for th emajority of the time. HOWEVER, it is stated that their will be peace in Heaven and lions will lay with lambs and their shall be no need to hunt and kill for food. If you ttake that literally you would see that there would be animals in Heaven. I think God is a personal God and would not withhold allowing us to see or be with the animals we had in the former life on earth. But in any case, if we are in Heaven and things aren't as I think it would be...I doubt people will have this worry because we would be so happy and completely without sorrow or pain. it all depends on a persons belief...we will all find out when we pass away |

Leviticus chapter 24 verses 17 and 18 refers to animals as souls the same as man, if they are killed unjustly then it is soul for soul. The scripture you refer to about lions and lambs is in Isaiah chapter 11 verses 6 and 7 and is actually refering to a perfect earth , this is what we pray for in the Lords prayer where we ask for" his kingdom to come, The heavens are already persect hence this is refering to earth Yes God is a personal God and in psalms chapter 145 verse 16 he says he is opening his hand and satisfying the desire of every living thing You are so right we will all find out eventually and equally we are entitled to think however we do I put these scriptures here only as a reference to those who believe in the bible ![]() I thoroughly respect our differing opinions on such an emotional subject. Although I would love nothing more than to believe our animals go to heaven I have found nothing in my lifetime of faith and study of the bible to prove this ![]() What does however annoy me is that someone would go on tv and not even try to back up any statement with proof ![]() |

And besides, I think some of the priests on TV are a little "nutty" anyway (not personally, just in what they preach)...I guess I just don't get Catholic religon... |

I'd just consider it one person's opinion/interpretation of Scripture and let it go. Ultimately NONE of know the reality of the hereafter, so we're all just guessing and/or hoping.
p.s. If my dogs aren't allowed into Heaven, I don't think I want to be there either. |

I believe animals make us happy...in Heaven we are supposed to be happy. If dogs bring us joy, why WOULDN'T they be in Heaven?

God cares for all the creatures, dogs included, so I believe that dogs do go to heaven. Like what Chelsea said, God cares for even the little sparrows. God loves us, and he loves them to! He doesn't want to hurt us or them...So, yes, I do believe dogs go to heaven!

I have only studied the subject a little, and seeing how reading the bible is not my thing, I do know there are many different levels of heaven according to the christian religion. From what I remember of the bible they tend to talk about the heaven in which good people reside when they die. This is not to say that just because the bible (which is usually talking about this heaven) does not say there will be animals with you in heaven does not mean they might not ascend to a different level/location of heaven. (once again I am not overly familar with the different levels of heaven and what resides exactly on each)
That said I still think it is stupid that a priest would respond this way. (I would assume it was a question from a child) I can see that statement sending kids crying and heartbroken. He could have side stepped the issue, and said... he has not been to heaven so he can not be sure, but heaven is supposed to be a happy place, and would you be as happy w/out animals? Then the kids are happy, not hurt, and he has not lied (heck I am not sure he even gave an answer that the bible agrees with in the first place). That said according to my beliefs dogs/animals are equal in death w/ us so I would not worry. |
