dying dogs???
how do you all feel about dying dogs?
and i mean if people are using SAFE, non-toxic veggie based dye. i see no harm in it, but i know alot of people are dead set against it. i did my chihuahua pink a couple times and it was simply adorable. i had to stop though becuase i got too many rude comments walking down the street. (as well as dumb ones! i.e. "is that her natural color?") plus i couldnt get anywhere in time with her! i did it for fun and i thought she looked very cute. it didnt harm her at all and she didnt hate getting it done either. she did some doggy modeling back in te day as well and got gigs from being pink. so i was just wondering how you all felt about this becuase i know peta went crazy on kelly osbourne for doing her dog pink. |

I don't know, part of me says it doesn't hurt the dog, but another part says why would I ever want to dye my dog different colors... I guess I would not do it myself, and would think it was kind of stupid (sorry this would just be what would come to mind) if I saw one on the street, but I do not think it is horrible.
As long as the pup is fine with the process, then I guess I am ok with it. I saw them putting extensions in Nicole Richie's dog's hair and thought that looked kind of foolish, but it is your pet. So I guess as long as it causes no harm to the dog, I am ok with it, but would not do it myself. |

I don't really see the point, but if doesn't hurt the dog I don't see why anyone would get all up in arms about it.

I feel that there is no harm in dying or putting clothes on dogs, but many people are against it. I have seen a maltese mix that was safely dyed to look like a panda, and some poodles who were dyed pink and blue. I personally like the idea of giving your canine buddy highlights. If we can have them, why not dogs?

I think the whole idea is a tad bit silly... but that's just me. I'd rather spend the money on something else for my dog, like more toys, doggie sweaters... stuff like that instead of actually dying the hair.
I personally wouldn't do it, but that's just me. So long as it doesn't hurt the dog, then what's the harm? Anyone remember that person who was here awhile ago with that toy poodle dyed blue? |

I think it's totally ridiculous. My dog is a dog and not a fashion accessory.
While it may not be harmful I can't imagine it's a pleasant process for the dog to go through-- esp getting the dye right up by their eyes. I wouldn't get dye that close to my own eyes either. |

I don't see what purpose it serves and agree that a dog is not a fashion accessory.
I guess my question would be, how many people would do this to their child from time to time just because? A dog is a living thing and in my opinion if you wouldn't do it to your child then why would you subject your dog to it? |

I think it is totally ridiculous too! A dog should be a dog and not some fashion accessory, and the last couples of years they sadly becoming more and more an accessorie (thanks to Hollywood): dressed in the same way as their owners, toonails polished etc etc. A dog should be able to get dirty outside while playing or walking ... just be a dog and a companion!

I think it's kind of dumb. It makes the dog look like a thing rather than a living, breathing creature that has feelings. I especially would not die a small dog because IMO it encourages people to think "Hey that dog is cute," and then they go and get a dog from some idiot, and treat it like a toy.
The reason people were so upset with Kelly Osbourne is this was a young puppy, a bulldog puppy. Bulldogs already have breathing problems, do you really need to put chemicals into their bodies? http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/celebrity/36972004.htm |

Without projecting human values onto a canine, all I would say is if it really doesn;t hurt the dog in clinical terms, it's up to the owners.
Afterall, who are we hurting, really? And while I agree that is sounds strange, or doesn;t seem to serve any purpose other than a superficial, cosmetic one, we all probably live with frivolities and cosmetic perceptions, each in our own different ways and to different degrees, whether we'd like to accept it, or agree to ever admiting it. Or looking at it differently, let's talk about clothing for dogs. Apart from protection from external environmental factors, if it really doesn;t harm the dog, and increases the 'fun' factor between dog and owner (provided the dog likes being dresses up and is in no danger of a heat stroke or discomfort), I would say, "Why not." But like any 'deviation', if it threatens to replace a deeper, more biologically natural process and verges onto being an obsession, then i would say that it's time someone sits down and re-evaluates perceptions, beliefs, perceptions and values. well although I wouldnt do it myself I dont see any harm in it if the dog doesnt hate having it done.
If the worst thing anyone ever did to their dog was give it a hair colour change the world would be a much nicer place. As for PETA well dont get me started on them they are the most uninformed people with power. They do more harm than good. rather than chucking a tantrum about a dogs haircolour or shirt they would be much better addressing some real issues that are harming our animal life ![]() |

To be honest, if anyone in this household is getting their hair dyed, it's me. I'm not spending money on my natural red heads when they have enviable color - I'd much rather play with my own. I just find the natural color of the animal attractive in the first place, and worry a bit that coloring an animal is going to cause others (if not the owner) to look at it as a fashion accessory. Then again, I've seen competitive grooming competitions in which the dogs were dyed, and those were pretty amazing to watch.

I really think it's stupid. And I mean, dying your own hair dries it out... why would you do that to your animal?
I would NEVER die my girls hair. My specific breed has such a beautiful variation in colors and patterns, it's beautiful enough to look at. But I guess if the dog is not being harmed, it isn't *too* bad. But I would NEVER allow it in my household, nor would I recommend/commend anyone for doing it. It's just really silly to me. The only accessorizing that I would do for my dog is buy doggy clothes, and purdy collars. And I do have to agree that it just shows the dog as an accessory, and just entices uneducated people to buy the dog because they see it and say "Hey, that dog is cool, maybe I could do that if I get one". A dogs natural color is best... if they were meant to be pink and blue... they would have been created to be that way. |
