Loose dogs

What do you think about loose dogs? I'm really mad at the moment. My neighbor believes that confining dogs is cruel, so she allows all 6 of her dogs free run of the neighborhood. I'm getting very frustrated at having to chase them out of my driveway and picking up poop in my yard that wasn't left by my dogs. Not only that, cars have to stop and wait for them to get out of the road, if they do that is.

Yeah I'm not a fan of loose dogs either. I can see why you're mad. There's this one dog that gets loose ALL the time at my neighborhood and it drives me nuts. I don't agree with chaining dogs either but letting them run free in the backyard is better than running free in the neighborhood. What's the legal limit of pet dogs in your area?

I have zero tolerance. I've seen 3 dogs killed on this road because of irresponsible owners. If I see a loose dog and it seems friendly enough, I get it in the front yard (fenced), and if no ID, I call animal control. I've done that with 7 dogs in less than two years. None had ID. I used to be more patient, but these days, I don't mess around.

I'm the same way I hate to see loose dogs. Up the street these people have around 7-10 little dogs like dachshund's, cocker's, Pomeranian's and chi's. I'm constantly dodging dogs in the road. Sad thing is they have a fenced in yard. I also run into issues with loose dogs while Im walking mine. I can tell these two jack russel's live near the trail I walk, but they are always coming up and messing with my kids. Ugh loose dogs....!!!

Been there and still doing it. Neighbors across the street like to let their lab "sneak out" of the house and dart about my yard causing my dogs to go into a frenzy. Then, even though they know we have a very aggressive dog in our yard, they proceed to tresspass onto my property to chase and yell at their dog. How ironic that they named their dog Chase!
I have even gotten the police involved to no avail. If only I could catch him myself and bring him to an animal shelter out of our town. Someday...oh yes, someday...."waiting patiently bidding my time".

It is one of the most frustrating things to me when people are that irresponsible and project their feelings and thoughts onto their dogs. Dogs are meant to be led by the pack leader, not just go out and about doing their own things. This leads to many behavioral problems and a lot of frustration for fellow pet owners.

I have the same problem. You don't know how aggravating it is when I have a bitch in heat and all the neighbors don't confine or neuter their dogs.

Another annoying thing about loose dogs is when I'm walking my dogs, the loose dogs will bother us the whole time because of their stupid irresponsible owners

I never see dogs running loose, but what is just as annoying is when I take mine for a walk and someone is either in their garage tinkering around, washing their car or doing yard work and their dog is loose but in it's own yard, see mine and charge after us & I have to grab mine up while the owner of the dog tries to get his back home.

I hate loose dogs. Most of my neighbors just let thier dogs run loose all the time. Often without tags or id. The neighbors have lost one dog due to it being hit. But that does not stop them from letting the two left, a weim and a mixed breed run around free. The weim is aggressive, hunts rabbits and kills them in my yard as well as use my property as it's personal bathroom. Which pisses me off because they do not worm their dogs, nor are they vetted. So I have to be careful and try to keep Kody from eating or walking through any presents and picking up parasites which costs me more money. If I could catch them, I'd have the warden pick them up. Perhaps if they had to pay a fine several times they'd do something about it. But they are not the only neighbors that let their dogs run loose. It's the country, dogs are supose to run loose.

I've also had a springer spaniel get lost in the middle of the night, find my porch and proceed to howl and bark ever 30 minutes for 8 hours till animal control finally came and got it. I did call the owners several times, but no response was ever given.

It's hard to get through to owners who don't want to change, some never do.

Cinthia

Would a live trap work? You could put it in your yard and keep your dogs inside while it was out there.

I can't stand loose dogs!!! I don't mind as much if they're very well trained and NEVER leave their yard or their owner's side but the untrained ones who only come back on the 7th or 8th call, and always stray and stuff drive me nuts! Especially when I'm trying to do a training run on the sled! I either get dogs standing in the middle of the trail not moving as we barrell towards them, or I ned up with dogs chasing us and distracting the boys! Argg!

This happens to me also. I have to stick to a certain route when I'm walking Jesse or I have a problem with dogs charging out at us. It's terrifying for both me and Jesse. I don't understand why people think that just because you happen to be with the dog in the front yard, that it means everything is fine and the dog is under control.

We have a few loose dogs around here. Most of them are small but you see the occasional medium/large dog. My neighbour directly opposite me has (what looks like) a collie cross and she's the sweetest thing, wouldn't hurt a fly..but is ALWAYS out. I'm worried she'll be hit by one of the stupid hoons we have driving around here at top speed on the weekend at night.

Can someone please tell me why no one builds fences anymore??????? Gods it frustrates me. If ya don't want to chain the dog up, build a bloody fence. Or a kennel/run. Geez...how difficult is that? Honestly!

Cass.

I also hate loose dogs as they pose problems for others.
We had a neighbour who used to send his dog over to poop on our lawn.. can you imagine .... Wayne finally got sick of it and went out our back yard picked up every poop he could find and a few more from the front and threw it over to the guys front lawn ,takes a lot to rile my man but he sure was mad that day
Another problem arises if big dogs are on the loose they can actually jump fences and harm another persons small dog

If I can catch loose dogs that are on my lawn I attach a note to their collar that says the next time I catch them they will go to the pound. I have never taken a dog to the pound but it helps for a little while. I don't even let my dogs off lead going from the house to the car and vice versa. I either carry them or put them on a lead for the 30 foot walk. I wont let my dogs in the backyard by themselves either. I am always out there with them to watch. Lucy will bark at people that walk by and I don't want her to do this. It might make kids tease her.
