Whilst I don't agree with what they're saying at least they've taken the time to explain their point of view and have emphasised the importance of being a responsible owner to prevent the dog producing any unwanted pups.
Still...it irks me that people who aren't nearly responsible enough to care for an intact dog will take this as their 'excuse' not to spay or neuter. EDIT: Just to clarify...is the existance of the website the debate or is it the 'anti neutering' point of view that you wanted to debate? Have to make it clear before we begin because otherwise we're just going to stray right into the 'should we spay/neuter or not' argument. Cass. |

Well, I've gone from being a staunch neuter/spay believer to a more moderate one. I do happen to agree with some of the health reasons as well as the psychological ones with neutering. Some cancers are more likely with intact dogs, but those seem to be the less common ones. There are also cancers and bone health problems associated with the loss of growth hormones in neutered dogs. Dogs don't bulk up as well as they should if neutered and the strength and density of the bones are not as good as when intact. There are behavior plusses and minuses. It is thought that the lack of hormones can cause a dog to be less secure. I have read some of the pros and cons in other places...not just here. They were born with these organs and they do serve purposes which are not talked about too much on account of the widespread movement to spay and neuter.
So, I am for spay/neuter in most cases, but I can't say that I agree that someone is being irresponsible necessarily just because they have their reasons for not spaying or neutering. What is irresponsible is letting dogs breed indescriminately or become a nusance in some other way. |

Simple answer as much as I wish we did not have to spay or neuter at least most dogs wake up from the neutering surgery, very few how ever (somewhere around 0%) wake from being PTS.
I would rather see a dog fixed then dead. If you can keep your dog from getting knocked up or knocking another dog up then it is fin to not neuter them, if not it needs to be done... |

I think it depends on the individual person and in the majority of cases the individual person is not responsible enough to care for an intact dog.
I think there are far to many unwanted dogs being killed each year to take the chance. But I do see that there are legitimate arguments against it. Cass. EDIT: Mulroony, I agree. |

actually i placed this in the wrong spot, but since we are on a debate how bout not spaying vs spaying. Me personally i'd rather spay. I do have my dogs fixed with the exception of my shepherd who i was thinking of breeding but, i have decided not to and just have her fixed. It just makes sense. my males are altered so i don't have to worry about pups but still....this person does have valid points but some of the stuff is just sick. So for everyone for spaying please line up on the right of the room everyone against to the left please

BIGDOGLOVER: lol isn't it great to be called a neuter nazi, did you read about being a control freak if you have your dog fixed because you don't want them to roam, now i know that roaming happens even with fixed pets but still |

LOL....yeah, its a new term for me, and actually, I kinda like it! lol
Like I said, I live in the country, and my dogs know the boundaries of the yard. I have about 40 acres behind my house of fenced in cow pasture that they "roam" in. |

What never ceases to amaze me is how a female in heat locked up in a secure area can still manage to get pregnant.
Where there is a will there is a way ![]() soooo although some people may be responsible, accidents still happen and if you are not wanting to perpetuate a breed the kindest thing is to neuter. The fors and against for health reasons are much of a muchness and as mulroony said very few ( 0%) wake up from being pts. |
