It isn't a matter of all looking alike, it is a matter of whether they breed true or not. Do Puggles bred with Puggles, who are then bred with Puggles, who are then bred with another Puggle, and so on and so forth, all look the same? Is there a breed standerd for the Puggle?
Right now, Puggles are a Beagle/Pug mix. The dad is Beagle, the mom is a Pug or vise versa. There are no third or forth generation Puggles being bred. Just because there are a lot of Boxer/GSD mixes out there that look the same doesn't mean that a Boxer/GSD mix is a breed. So no, I don't think they should be a breed until they actually start breeding them. |

Heck no. Soon people would want to create a designer breed with puggle next- a puggleoodle or some other non-sense UGH.
I have no problem with AKC allowing mixes to compete in performance events (I think it should be encouraged to be honest), as long as they are spayed/neutered. There are venues out there for mixed breeds, but in certain parts of the country, they are few and far between. I used to be able to compete in USDAA every weekend, but now there are very few within 5 hours of me. Luckily Ollie has an ILP or we couldn't compete.. |

No of course they shouldn't. Because they aren't.
As Ritz stated above, they need to have bred true for several generations. Although a lot of them look similar they aren't all the same and most 'breeders' are only breeding first generation crosses (pug x beagle). If in the, very unlikely, event some responsible people ever decided that they would like to create a breed based on this mix. They would need a breed club, conformation shows, strict breeding rules, extensive health tests, a standard and a large dedicated group of people breeding with the exact same goal in mind. This ain't gonna happen because these dogs are bred for profit and there is no profit in creating a breed (just like there is no profit in breeding dogs...if you do it right and with the animals best interest at heart). Cass. |

I agree with what has already been said. The "breeders" of the Puggle have yet to even show an interest in having their records maintained / generations tracked enough to even be considered foundation stock.
The only thing I've seen come from the majority of these so called breeders is an interest in the dollar not developing a breed that can be recognized and reliable. |

Nope!
and IMO... the "puggles" that I've seen around here, all look completely different. I have yet to see two dogs of this mix to look the same around here. |

Definitely not - I maintain that a x breed is always a x breed - nothing else.
Also if they start recognising one x-breed as a breed in it's own right it's never going to end - which will be to the detriment of all breeds if that does happen. |
