From the news secton...Dog Fur is Showing Up on Big Labels

Using dog fur as a garnishment on garments. The stroy

Is it better then using leather? Is it any different then using leather? Or is it worse then using leather?

Does it depend of methods used to obtain it? Or does it matter if the dog in question is a nocturnal mammal that resembles a raccoon, called a Raccoon Dog?

IMO they are both as bad as each other. From what I've heard the leather and fur isn't used as well as meat products - because to use the skin/fur the animal has to be killed in a different way to what it would for consumption purposes (ie so the skin and fur isn't "ruined" from marks etc.

Does anyone know of any places that actually obtain leather or fur products in any sort of a "humane" (for want of a better word) way?

I don't really know about the whole leather issue. I guess I always thought that they obtained leather from animals already going to be butchered and eaten. (Like from cows.)

I'm not a vegetarian. I eat meat. The beef that we get, we get from a neighbor, and his cows are free range, not crammed in a stall and pumped full of hormones.

But if leather and fur comes from animals being tortured, then I am against them. Especially when those animals being tortured are the same kind of animals that are in our military, potrol the streets with cops, sniff out drugs, rescue people from fires, lead the blind, help the disabled, and preform search and rescue. Seems a poor way to repay them.

What is the point of a garnishment on clothes?

That's sick that for something so rediculous they would use dog skin!

I understand that one time in life we needed to use animals for leather, clothes, and what not to keep warm... but that was a long time ago!!! We have other methods now so why are they still resorting to this sickness.

Why can't they just find a use for dog shedded fur and glue that on as a garnishment... it's just as stupid but more humane that no animal had to suffer for.

ITA w/Dogs above.

If they want to shear animals (e.g. sheep), fine. If you want to use the hide of animals which were eaten, fine. I don't like the idea or raising animals for the sole purpose of making an expensive coat. It is sick.

i hate this! it makes me sick to even think that there´s people out there who is actually willing to do this. i not only blame the so-called-designers, but everyone who promotes it. what they do is just plain cruelty, and they have no respect for others. this is why i became vegan......
