Male or female dogs?
I was thinking about this after my dad and brothers said that they thought male dogs were better and easier to train than females. Obviously they think that because they're guys
, but it doesn't make a difference to me. Do you have a preference about the sex of your dog? |

I myself prefer males, even for fostering. If I can choose between genders, you best believe I would pick a boy! I think its because of my father always wanting a male dog, the entire time I was growing up, I just followed his example. Also I like that males are bulker and taller than females

I prefer females to males. lol I like the fact that they are smaller and don't spray when they pee. (And it doesn't help the fact that four out of the five dogs we've "owned" have been female. Blackie is the only male dog we've had, but he is my *heart* dog.)
But I do love male dogs as well...a male and female pair is the best, because then you get the best of both worlds! ![]() |

I prefer females myself cause they are easier to poddy train imo.
I've heard it said that males are more affectionate than females but I've not observed that in my own, they all love me the same. |

I prefer male dogs. I grew up in a family (including my extended family) who only ever had females until my stepdad came into the picture and insisted the only way we were getting a dog was if it was male. Ever since then I've preferred male dogs. It may simply be a case of the dogs I have been around but I find them less pushy and bossy than females - the males just seemed to be a lot mellower.

I don't have a preference. I've had two males and two females and both my females were slightly more affectionate than the males, but none of them stood out as being easier to train based on sex. I think it really depends more on the breed and the individual dog (and the owner...the owner is a big part of it
). Cass. |

in my house I have 4 females and 3 males..the biggest difference...every one of my females are a millions times smarter then my males lol. the males are all more cuddly, yet prone to take off, while my females are not as cuddly, they NEVER leave our sides. as I look down every female in my hosue is is asleep at my feet, the only male anywhere near me is Rusty and he is in a crate. my females have more desire to work, while my males are all like "screw the sit, pet me!". overall? I prefere females, I have one small male dog, he is my arm candy lol a little dog that likes being carried around and cuddling, my females are all working dogs, thats what I want, dogs with work ethic and smarts, every time I have looked for a working dog, looking for certain traits, I have always gone in looking for whatever male or female. every last time the only pups that fit my criteria have been females, my lone male is a rescue that just kinda showed up at my house and never left lol

I fostered males and females over the years I was in rescue, and I had more problems with the males marking in the house, so they all had to wear belly bands. The males are happy go lucky for the most part, where as the females are little nesters and keep the males in their place while they rule the house.
I didn't see a lot of one sex being more affectionate than the other, but I had a more difficult time training the males to potty outside, and they were more the cry baby type when put in their crate.I chose to have female dogs because I had sons and no daughters and I craved a little girl with lots of pink things. My husband is more partial to the girls than any of the boys I had also. Anyway, male or female, they are all wonderful!!!! |

I don't have a preference, I like both male and females. Right now I have a male and female, and Harley (male) is definitely a very bosy, pushy dog. He likes to get his own way all the time, but he can also be super affectionate and loves his cuddles. Abby (female) is quite independent, but occasionally she'll love to have a cuddle. She absolultely loves playing, but Harley would rather nap than play (he was this way from around age 3). I've also had another male dog before, and he was really lovely - loved playing, cuddles and being around everyone. The only thing that can be a bit annoying with males is if they feel the need to mark everything (not inside, but outside)!

I don't have a preference either. The only two dogs that I've actually owned myself have been female, however my dad always had male dogs around cause they don't get pregnant! We live out in the country and if the dog gets out there's a good chance it's mating with another dog in the area...
I know *spay and neuter* when we were kids though we were poor and dogs as pets were looked at much differently back then than they are now. |

I have 7 males and 5 females. I prefer males. Females are more domineering! I have two very dominant girls right now. And I just like everything about the males I have had so far! My mom prefer's female animals, but I pretty much love all male animals. (Dogs, cats, rats, mice, etc.)

I prefer males. I just feel they bring more to the plate over-all than females plus I tend to work better with them. If possible I would have only male dogs, (for the most part) but I understand how unreasonable that is since I know my house will be a multi-dog household at all given times (likely 3 or more) and the breeds will all be very dominant breeds. When looking for a puppy though I dont show up expecting to walk away with one sex or the other though, I just go in looking for the best puppy that will suit my requirements.
