Pet Friendly Work Place vs Job Loyalty

In spirit of the upcoming take your dog to work day I figured this would make a decent debate.

I was reading an article that stated that employers are welcoming pets in the work place because in the time when you are lucky to get a couple years out of an employee before they move on. A job where people can bring their pets with stirs up loyalty simply because it is really difficult to come across jobs that allow pets.

Just curios how you feel about the ability to bring your pets with you to work, and the loyalty this would create for your job.

Personally I would love to be able to bring my dog with me (although the University has a general policy against it, most people tend to look the other way about it), but it would be difficult a lot of days. It would really make me think long and hard about switching jobs if one allowed e to bring my dog(s) where the other didn't.

I can bring my dog to work- I work from home...but if I could be in center and have the dogs there that would be great. However, they're very loud and they aren't as well behaved as I would like them to be. I would leave my job though if I could permanently bring them to work with me.

I can bring my dogs to work with me whenever I want, as I work in a vet clinic in the grooming and boarding area. I recentally took Chloe to work with me because my younger twin brother and sister where having a birthday party and my mom didn't want to mess with 12 twelve year olds, as well as a puppy.
Chloe was able to run around while I cleaned the bathing room, but she wasn't allowed back in the kennels with me. Too many chances for her to get sick, as she doesn't have all of her shots, and no good place to put her. She stayed in a crate in the grooming room while I was working.

I like being able to take my dogs to work with me if I have to, but it isn't something that I like to do as they would be crated anyways and I couldn't be in the room with them. I suppose it would be different if I worked in an office of some sort where my dog would be with me 24/7. However, being able to bring my pet to work with me is a great perk.

Although I work for the state I do bring my dogs with me to work (only one at a time). They sleep under my desk (I work overnight) and do not cause any problems.... but.... I am a responsible pet owner. I would not want most of the people I come into contact with to be able to bring their dogs to work because quite frankly, it would go a long ways towards encouraging MORE dog laws instead of creating a positive look at dogs and fewer laws.

SO... because I look very carefully at when and wear my dogs should be and how they effect my job performance as well as that of those around me... I love to bring my dogs to work, when appropriate. But quite frankly I don't think the general population could do the same given the opportunity to bring their dogs to work.

As far as creating loyalty, yes, those of you who know me, my dogs are an intregal part of my life, and any workplace that understands that about me, will definitely get my vote of support and increased loyalty.

I've always dreamed of bringing Harley and Abby to work, and I even asked my boss if I could but he said "No. No dogs allowed in the office!" Ahh.. that ruins my plans! I can just imagine Harley or Abby just sleeping under my desk, exploring the office and sitting on my lap while I do work. Gosh, I'd just LOVE to have them with me throught the day. It'd make work that much better having them there.

I'd also love to take River into work with me - but the reality is I don't think I'd get very much done!!! He did get a trip into work as a puppy so everyone could met him and while we were there absolutely nothing got done by anyone!!!

Novel raised some great points as to why things should probably stay the same (unfortunately!!!)

Novel - I just have to wonder how many of your average pet owners would bring their dogs in just because they could? I would be willing to bet more then likely it would be people like you would find on this board. Maybe every once in awhile, but for most people one little hickup and they would never bring their dog again.

D - I work in a building with fish, bees (literally across the hall there is a sign on the door "Caution Live Bees"), birds, bugs, and quite a few other creatures (all for research), but no dogs allowed. Maybe I should say it is for research. Yeah I am sure that would work.

At my current job (office manager at a modular home dealership) Trixie comes to work with me just about everyday. She just lays there most of the day. there's an abandoned baseball field that we play in on lunch break and go there for potties. The store across the road lets her in, so do the bank and post office. This is a very small town, and she's turning into the town mascott. They keep treats on hand for when she comes in. Everyone knows her and of course loves her They even let me bring her in the waiting area when I get my tires rotated at Kost! hehehehe....but soon that will all change when I move to FL, i'm sure I won't be allowed to brin gher to work since Im looking for exec. positions. But who knows!! maybe they'll be cool people

You could be very correct. The same people that leave their dog outside all year long in a 5 x 5 run probably won't bring them to work... and those that are already active and training probably would.

I've always heard that other countries, like those in europe are much more dog friendly. Is that the case? Do they allow them in the workplace more there? Is dog ownership at the same percentage as here in the states?

I would love to be able to take my dog to work everyday....but since I work with kiwi, for which dogs are a major predator, it will never happen Besides, she hates running around with half the forest floor stuck to her fur

But I'm always amazed at the number of people that try and bring their dog into our reserve because their dog is 'special' and would never hurt wildlife....yeah right

If I ever get an office job I hope the boss will be cruisy enough to let me bring my dog along though.
