Home Made Dog Food recipes and Yogurt for a special treat ??

I've posted a question on a different forum about what can be used as a treat(like a dessert) for dogs. A person said plain yogert is a good thing to give dogs. Is this true , is it ok if I gave our puppers plain yogert inbetween their doggie cookies ?
Also what else is ok to give them, the food I make has meat(beef- stirfry style cuts ,broiled) fresh organic peas and green beans, carrots, sweet potatos and ofcourse rice. They all love it(and know when its made too). Is there any thing else I can give them or add to that ? how about cookie recipes for dogs that any one uses ? any other dog food recipes any one uses ? how about home made recipes for cats ? I havent made the cats any yet and I dont want them to feel left out.

There are many great treat recipes for dogs and cats. One book that has a world of information, treatments and recipes is Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cat's. It's an amazing book.

For lunch, and I suppose you could call it a treat, I give my dogs unflavored fat free plain yogurt mixed with cottage cheese, grated carrots and often add blueberry's.

I think they'll like the cottage cheese but Blue berries are hard to find this time of year so that'll have to wait untill the stores start to carry them. I'll look into the book, maybe Barns and Noble will have it. We dont have one up here but my aunt has one down her way so maybe she can get it for me and ship it. Any other fruit out there that dogs can have- strawberries, raspberries, bananas maybe ??
Thanks for the info. Now I'm going to give the dogs their yogurt doggie cookies- I think they'll love em'.

You can still buy blueberry's in the frozen fruit section. I find they are much, much cheaper than fresh too.
Chopped apples, strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, pineapple, pears. I'd say most fruit except grapes. I hear the seeds are toxic, I don't know, but I avoid anyway. My girls love all fruit except bananas. Funny too since all 3 wont eat them.

Oh ok- yeah I heard about grapes. You know I forgot about the frozen berries- lol. I'll have to pick some up along with some other fruits for them-maybe strawberries, we have apples so I'll try it on them. I know AJ eats them, my moms given him bit sized pieces so I'm pretty sure all will like them too. Thanks again,

My 2 dogs love cottage cheese and plain yogurt . I alway add 1 or 2 table spoon yogurt in their kibble for breakfast.

Just a caution about yogurt. Dogs love it, but I wouldn't feed it to large breed puppies under a year old. More and more dog books are saying it is too high in calcium and not good for large breed puppies. It can add to the chance of your dog getting hip and elbow problems.

Oh we dont have any puppers under 1yr as of now, things like yogurt /cottage cheese will be given as a treat only and on special occation. Our new puppy wont have but a teaspoon for her size(same as Blackie basicly) Aj, Dixie, Bud and Rain all get 2teaspoons- all will get that once a week now that I know they love it..
Thanks,

Feeding yogurt or cottage cheese to large breed puppies will not harm their growth joints in any way whatsoever! That is a hereditary problem. Another good reason to find a reputable breeder who shows dogs.
