RedHotDobe, I'm right there with ya'. We simply can't do full RAW as my family is SO obstinate and anti-raw. So, we compromised with half raw in the morning and half kibble at night. We usually wait about 12 hours before feeding kibble, so I'm not as concerned about fermentation and bacteria. By the time I feed kibble, the raw meat should have been digested (and pooped) and Gissie has at least 12 hours between the kibble dinner and the raw breakfast. Not to mention, she poops almost immediately after being awaken. I *believe* you need a 6-8 hour interval between raw and kibble meals. Maybe...I'm not sure. Also, in the early evening, I hand Gissie a rec bone to help keep those pearly whites pearly white!

With the rising costs of dog food, my family is definitely on the verge of total RAW. I'm crossing my fingers that by January, we'll be 100% Raw (Please, please, please!!!).

Silly me forgot to check this thread, but Greenleaf that is great news! I think I might do the same sort of thing, or do kibble in the morning and deal with the meat and possible mess in the evening when I have more time. Then again, maybe I'll just go all raw. This is sounding not as hard as I once thought. Maybe we'll even eliminate that awful Dobergas.

you can do whatever your dog handles. some people recommend feeding the raw apart from the kibble (i did, just because i made them two separate meals), but i also know people that feed the raw meat mixed in with the kibble.

if its so false then why did my sisters dog get really sick after they used it to clean his room? It may not have killed him but he had a severly upset stomach, that the vet said was from ingesting something.

Lots of cleaning products are harmful to animals.

thats like saying, why did i get a cold after i went to the foodstore. did i catch it from someone there, did i get it somewhere else, was i already getting sick before i went?

there are too many variables, and a TON of things the dog could have ingested, besides the swiffer stuff. not to say that i would ever FEED my dog swiffer. i use the swiffer to wipe my floors every day, and none of my animals have suffered. i use the antibacterial one, too.

its been shown to be false. some individual animals could have idiosyncratic reactions, allergic reactions, etc to ANYTHING on earth, but swiffers dont pose a threat to most animals.

Kim, yet another question for you.

Have you heard of a supplement called Missing Link? I've heard several good things about it and I'm considering getting it for my boys. Typically I wouldn't want to feed a multivitamin supplement since I would rather they get their nutrients from a variety in their diet, but lately I haven't been able to give them a wide variety of meats and offal and I'd like to make sure they are getting what they need.

If you've heard of it, what do you think? Would it be something you'd try, or would you recommend steering clear of it?

yeah, ive herad of it. i dont use it, since it has some things in it that i dont want to give (the problem with all the multivitam-ish supplements ive found), but i know some people use it. ive used it on other animals, and im still considering it for the cats, since they are alot pickier than bowie! but cat supplements are a whole different story!

I just bought a bag of Missing Link the other day. I haven't opened it yet, but I know a lot of Grey people recommend it for growing hair back (many Greys have "bare butt" syndrome :P). It's also supposed to make their coat softer and shinier...Who knows? I'll post updates if it works.

A Little OT but...

Kim, which ingredients in supplements don't you want to give to your dog and why not? Sorry this is a little OT.
Kit

well, i see no reason to supplement with rice bran, i dont want to use flax seed (at least not that much) and sunflower seeds arent needed for my dog, but there are also some things that i would RATHER be in there. ive looked at a lot of supplements, its all what you want to give. personally, i dont think missing link is a bad product at all. but its not one that i would give as my first choice.

We have never used swiffer....and never will, don't know if it's a myth that it is toxic or not, but each dog will react differently.

Doberkim, Lucky is on EVO right now (recently switched) and I'm guessing he's detoxing (Big D, bloody paws, the works *gack*). We have about 8 pounds of chicken wings in the freezer right now. We don't have many organs right now, but we will in time. My question is how much of the diet should be offal? I heard 3 tablespoons for a 60 pound dog would be good. Lucky is 19.4 lbs (vet's office ). Would a tablespoon everyday or so be a good basis?

Edit: grammatical error

Also, my family and I are in a heated debate over the amount of skin a dog can tolerate. If a dog consumes chicken wings with the skin on for a moderately long period of time (we will add variety as we start to get the hang of this), will the skin/fat harm him in any way? Should I trim the skin?
